Or cook, I should say. How long do you cook them for? Is there anything special I need to do? They are Goya black beans.

There should be preparation instructions on the bag/box. Basically you need to rinse them well, or soak them. Then boil until they are soft, probably about 2 hrs.0 -
Start by either soaking in cold water for 4-6 hours (or you can quick soak by covering with 3" cold water, put on stove on high just until bubbles start, before complete boil. Remove from heat and cover, let stand for 30 mins drain and rinse) the purpose of soaking is to remove any pesticides as well as the chemicals that give you gas. Once soaked you can either cook in pressure cooker for about 6 mins or on the stovetop for 30-45 mins depending on how done you want them. Once cooked you have numerous applications you can use them in.0

Yeah, there should be instructions on the bag - I typically rinse and sort (pull out any that look funky) then soak overnight in a big pot of cool water. In the morning I drain and rinse the beans, add about 6 cups of water (or a can of chicken broth plus water to make a total of 6 cups), bring to a boil and then simmer for 2-3 hours.
The recipe from the website below calls for canned beans, but I substitute a bag of dry beans (after I've soaked and cooked as above) and it's pretty good. I omit the cup of water they add, as my cooked beans are already fairly saucy. You can also double all of the spices if your beans are too bland.

Another easy way is to sort and rinse them, soak overnight, and then cook in a crockpot/slowcooker. This works great if you work all day as they are ready to eat when you get home. Just set the cooker on low and make sure the water (or other liquid) is about an inch over the level of the beans in the pot. I usually add some sauteed onions and spices (cumin, paprika, and garlic powder are all good), and maybe a couple of green chilies to my pot before cooking.
I find that they keep just fine for about a week in the refrigerator.0 -
I rinse mine. Then let them soak for 30mins - 1hr. I like adding tomato sauce (the small can, no salt added if they have it), a few bay leaves and a tiny bit of turmeric. Then I cover with water. I cook mine in a crock pot so I let them go at least 3 hours, but I check on them & stir. I will taste occasionally for doneness. I'm just looking for them to lose that chalky taste. Salt & pepper to taste.0

Awesome! I am going to soak them tonight and then put them in the slow cooker tomorrow!0
