Do you ever feel "burned out"???

I'm going on 14 mos now that I have been working so hard, dieting (life change!) and exercising very hard. I have to admit, some days I'm just pooped and I feel a little bit of burn out. I mean, it's really hard to face each day with that 'new years resolution' type vigor. Anybody know what I mean?
I do feel successful so far, but I still have 25lbs to go, and some days it seems that I am moving at a snails pace!

I lost my 30 lbs by June of last year, and until now had switched to "maintenance" (from late June until Jan 1st). It was so refreshing and relieving to not be obsessing about diet and pounds, and just live a healthy life.

If you have slowed down with your loss, you might want to just try maintaining this weight for a while, and exercise just a few times a week. It might give your body a rest, and a chance to adjust to this current weight. Then you can shock your system again in a month or two, and start back with cutting the calories.

I started back Jan 1, and I can feel my body responding again, and I'm ready to do the last 5 lbs. I just couldn't do it last June - I was totally burned out from intense dieting!

    Just a thought!

Oh - I also wanted to give my wardrobe a break - I had just bought all new clothes, and wanted to live in them for a bit! I'm truly hoping to have to toss all of these for a smaller size soon though!

Oh, absolutely. It's been almost 4 years of regular exercise for me and 2 years of counting calories. Most of the time I don't notice it, but every now and then I wish I could just plain old pour myself a bowl of cereal! Sometimes I fall off the wagon, or I get injured and can't work out for a week or two, or I wonder why I can't just be fat and happy like so many people seem to be. But then I get back into the gym and realize that it's not the weight loss that I do this for...it's for my health and enjoyment.

I know exactly what you mean. I've been working on losing weight since last April. I have lost 20lbs so far with 15lbs to go. You know what I do when I get to that point where I'm just so tired I don't want to go on? a) I give myself a break and take a day off. I don't exercise and I eat what I want. But the next day I get right back on the wagon... exercise and eat right. or b) (I use this when I'm having trouble getting through a workout... wanting to quit early) I picture myself one year ago in a bathing suit. Then i picture myself this summer in a bathing suit at my goal weight. I did that last friday to get me through my mile run and I ran 1 1/4 mile! :) Hang in there... we've all been there. Take it a day at a time and just think about crossing the finish line!

Thank you so much for feeling my pain! Sweet pea, I love your tip about picturing myself 1 yr ago in a swimsuit (um not pretty).

That is exactly why I could never do what you do. :noway: I couldn't handle the constant pressure of knowing exactly what every bit of food was going to do in my body.

I do not envy you, simply admire your knowledge from afar.

Oh, it's not really pressure anymore. I used to stress about it, but I feel that part of my lifestyle change was to learn how to moderate that too. Some days I just have to guess, some days I go over, some days forget stuff. Now it's just as routine as brushing my teeth...just something to do regularly. But like I said, sometimes I get annoyed with it and once in a blue moon won't record anything for a day or two. My bf does tell me I'm weird and obsessed though hahah
  • Consider a good multi-vitamin. One A Day Energy and a B-12 supplement works wonders. The objective is a healthy life style and change takes time.
  • I see that you've lost 60lbs. Hooray for you! I only lost 5 pounds and I'm on top of the world. I have held on to 20 lbs for 8 years. My goal is another 15 and I'm calling it quits. And now to lose 5 of the 15 pounds, I can't give up. Don't give up, it's easy to give up harder to try.

I totally feel ya, sister! It is tedious and s lot of work. Worth it, though. Anything worth having seems to be work.

I took a 6- month break from logging my food and "formal" exercise. But I learned a lot in the previous 10 months of logging religiously. You have learned a lot, too. You can eye-ball portions I'll bet. You know you need to move more than you used to do.

You can take some time off from it. Just don't start making excuses, and keep doing as much as possible.

    1. Make healthy choices more often than not.
    2. Move
