Are there any benefits to drinking coffee black? Is it bad for you? Is it neutral? I'm substituting black coffee instead of energy drinks and I'm just curious about the pros and cons. Would really appreciated sources if you can provide them.

My cardiologist ordered me to keep drinking lots of coffee.

The first benefit I know of black coffee is that you don't have evil wicked mean nasty sugar or any of the nefarious industrial fakes in your coffee.
The second benefit I know is that it's a self-limiting indulgence.
The third benefit I know is that you don't waste money on various candy ingredients.

Drinking coffee black or not is a personal choice.
I can not provide any sources, just subjective personal feelings
I prepare a fresh brewed cup of coffee;every morning; prior to my workout. No cream, no sugar, no sugar substitutes.
I use coffee as a substitute of pre workout energy drinks. This way is cheaper and I control the coffee quality.
I grind it from whole beans. I do not use coffee pods.
How do feel after you have switched to black coffee ? I believe that is the more important test.

Coffee is fine. The thing you want to consider is too much caffeine. 10 cups of joe, not so good.

I like high quality coffee, with 1 splenda and 1/3 cup unsweetened cashew milk. Comes to about 10 calories per coffee, not too sweet, and keeps me from murdering people when I get up at 5:30am for work ;).

I've debated trying to get into black coffee, but a lot of the drive-thru coffee chains here have such poor quality beans that black would be a punishment.

It stops me from going on an Archer-style rampage every morning.

And it also helps keep me regular.

And sugar isn't mean and nasty. It's quite sweet, actually...

Coffee has quite a bit of potassium also. I often drink 3-6 16oz cups a day (my blood type is probably black coffee), though I have to have my iced coffee with lots of splenda.

Interesting question, I've had 5 Hour drinks to combat sleepiness and I do drink black coffee before my workouts on the weekends. So though I don't have an answer I can say that black coffee before working out does give me an energy boost during working out without any crashing afterwards.

It's probably better because you are not adding a bunch of extra calories, sugar, and whatnot to your drink. I was hooked on energy drinks for a long time and felt like I needed more as time wen on. My body got use to the amount of caffeine I was consuming and was no longer enough. I quit caffeine all together and feel better than I did when consuming caffeine. Some caffeine is probably okay, but in moderation.

Keeps me from killing people so I'd say it is good. I've been drinking it black for years. Took me a while to get used to it but now I hate it with milk or cream unless it is a latte . Which I don't drink often cause they are too many calories for me...I'd usually rather spend the calories on something like ice cream. Or wine.

It keeps me happy. My fiancé actually won't talk to me until I have made a cup if I wake up earlier then normal. Im pretty mean before noon. I cut caffeine out for a few weeks when I started getting crazy heartburn after I stopped drinking alcohol and I found out after a not so fun hospital visit that I have low blood pressure so caffeine is a permanent thing in my life. I'm currently working on cutting my creamer use down to black coffee.

Black coffee is definitely healthier than energy drinks, way cheaper too. Also you get a great buzz when you wake up and drink a cup, it's awesome. You're ready to conquer the world then.

Coffee gives my digestive system a nudge. Other than the calories black coffee is just like any other way people take their coffee.
