Hi,
So Ramadan is around the corner. Anyone have any tips for keeping the momentum of weightloss during this month of fasting? Specifically, does anyone know how to calculate nutritional - calorie/protein/carbs goals, etc? I'm going to keep my fitness routines going but I'm worried about how to eat. Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Teebs

It seems to me that a month of fasting would automatically help with weight loss but what do I know? LOL.

I'd get expert advice. Your doctor may say that you don't need to diet, or that you don't need to fast. I reckon the two are incompatible. Dieting is about little AND often.

For context for others: So as far as I know, Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calander, and was when the first verses of the Qu'ran were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. It's a really holy time of year where people focus on charity, accountability and prayer. You can also only eat when the sun is down. This fasting is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. This year it starts on June 7.
Since the iftar is generally made of lentils and chickpeas, that seems like a good way to keep going. I'm no doctor (which is who I would really advise visiting) but I would stick with lower calories options that are high in protein, since that's what takes your body the longest to go through. Focusing on lower calorie protein options in the morning, and maybe lower calorie fruits and starches in the evening? I would really advise checking with a doctor though.
Or, set your calories to maintaining, and maintain for the month. That way you only have to restrict on the timing, and not the amount as well.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

It's so hard not to gain weight during Ramadan lol. Because we eat at night... and eat a lot of good food... a feast lol. My advise is to eat small portions, limit carbs and sugar. Usually after you break your fast, you want to eat everything in sight so make sure to have plenty of healthy options. Keep the unhealthy food away lol. I'm going to be cooking light and healthy meals most days of the week, and maybe cook a couple of heavier meals each week with one dessert per week.. With that I hope to maintain weight. Don't know about losing... If you want to lose during Ramadan, stick with soup, salad, and some protein with veggies. Don't have rice or bread every night. And I guess dates can be your sweet lol. I also plan on doing 30 mins on the treadmill before fajir. Good luck! Ramadan Kareem :)

I read that many people gain weight during Ramadan because those fast breaking meals tend to be big epic. I hope someday some wonderfully generous Muslim family might take pity on my small, weak looking stature and invite me to join them. Not that I'm usually found wandering the streets looking hungry and lonely at nights mind. By the way, I don't know how anyone can go all day without even drinking any fluids, that's some quality sacrificing.
