compression shorts: alone, or under?

So I recently picked up a new pair of compression shorts and I was pleased to notice that they not only prevent chafing on my runs, and reduce rather annoying butt jiggle, but also make my butt look darned good in the process.

My question is this: is it kosher to wear compression shorts on their own or is this a strictly under your shorts thing? I wouldn't do it if I wasn't so proud of my rather obscenely muscular quads (and slowly reducing tushy) but I feel pretty fly in them. Plus I don't have to deal with my shorts sliding to my boobs (the never ending battle!).

Thoughts?

i would say at your weight, why the hell not show off your quads. i'm glad to hear they reduce the butt jiggle. at my weight (243) there's a damn lot of jiggle which is really bugging me. lol so i'm looking to pick up a pair of shorts myself. i ofcourse will spare the world that view. but i say, you should totally wear them alone.

If you feel good, I say go for it! I see people run in just compression shorts often, I'm more of a running skort kind of girl myself though!
  • When training, I wear them under something. When racing, I sport my tri shorts with nothing above them....easier to swim that way. :)

I LOVE my pair of compression shorts. They're on the longer side, though - the come down to about 3" above my knee, so much longer than conventional running shorts. I feel like I would look absolutely dorky wearing shorts over top of them, since they're longer than any running shorts I've seen. So... I just wear them on their own. :)

I say if you feel comfortable in them (and it sounds like you do), then go ahead and wear them solo.

I think if I was a guy I'd be a little self-conscious about my dangly bits being on display. No that I haven't seen that in male runners. :D

I always wear them underneath my shorts, they highlight certain things for me way too much.. I'm sure it would be fine for women though.

I wear a compression Tri short on their own while running. On race days, I see some men doing the same thing, or wearing running shorts which are very short.

I usually wear them by themselves when I work out. I wear underwear underneath them, though; the feel of compression shorts against my crotch is an extremely strange feeling.

I feel the compression shorts make me work harder because my stomach hangs over my shorts. I can see all of my problem areas, and it makes me work harder.

I wear them alone also. But I do workout at home and not infront of other people. I think I would be too self concious to wear them without something over them out in public lol

Question on this topic. What's worse. Compression shorts alone or that annoying over short that chafes and then rides up your thigh.... I don't want any part of my body looking like it's eating my shorts......

How tight are they? Do they highlight too much in front (I realize you're a woman)? Are they more revealing than the yoga pants in your profile pic? If not, then I say go for it! (At least for your workouts anyways.)

Even in 70 degree high humidity morning runs at 5:30 in the a.m. (like this morning) where I live I would never dream of wearing two of anything. Plus I would not run well being confined that much. And def not when lifting weights.

Personal choice. Wear what makes you comfortable from a stylish point, just being as comfy as you can, moreover, performance. What will make you run your best or exercise your best being what exercise that it is?

If you are a man, i find compression shorts by themselves to be too revealing for public.

If you are a woman, compression shorts alone are ok so long as the fabric is thick enough that it leaves the specifics of your front bits to the imagination.

If you feel good in them...do it! But, I have seen them on girls where it does highlight and emphasise the privates...maybe not the look they were going for? I have to believe they look in the mirror but after working out the compress more around the tops of the thighs? ALSO....why do some of them totally go in between the cheeks totally baring the behind? is it a brand thing or what you are wearing or not wearing under them. Sorry if TMI...I spend a bit of time on a short track where you see the same behinds over and over!

I would do the mirror test to make sure they are not see through (you know, bend over to touch your toes in front of a mirror and look behind you to see if anything shows. Also, make sure you are not showing the bits (i.e. camel toe). If they pass those two tests, then go for it! I see women wearing the nike pro shorts all the time, and they are basically just compression shorts.

I never base my decisions, upon what other's prefer. It's my body, my fashion choice & if someone doesn't desire to see my cellulite, camel toe, butt checks, butt crack, fat, etc., they can stay home & keep their blinds/curtains closed! I don't necessarily intentionally expose myself, like that but I've bought things; that I either couldn't try on 1st (ordered online) or I liked the style anyway & once I gained weight but couldn't afford a new wardrobe, so I had major camel toe; that my cross body purse didn't always successfully cover.

Lol it's funny you ask this because I'm sitting here in a pair of compression shorts and shorts right now ... I say wear what makes you comfortable. I originally bought mine because my shorts are super short and ride up when I run, making them obscenely short. I now sometimes wear just the compression shorts, but usually will wear my shorts over them because I like the look and like to play with what color compression shorts I want to peek out from under what color shorts today lol. But you can rock em any way you please! Totally a personal preference! :)
