Does All Exercise Count?

Does anyone know if there's any point to the exercise I've been doing at work? I have to sit for 12 hours. I've started doing 20 counter push-ups and 20 squats (holding a couple of big fat manuals) every hour. It passes the time, keeps me from being sedentary, but does it help me burn calories? In other words, does exercise count if it's done for 3 min at a time over 12 hours?

It all counts. If you took a five minute walk every hour at work, it woul give you 30 minutes for the day. If you do that five days a week, you would meet the minimum requirements of getting out of the sedentary classification.

Will that get you fit? No.

It doesn't burn a ton of cals, but def burns more than sitting at your desk. Plus it's building your strength & endurance!

Umm...well I am losing weight. But that's probably mostly due to my abandonment of beloved pancakes. I don't take measurements (although pants do fit better). I do real workouts on my days off. Just hard to work out after 12-hour day at work (even if it is sitting).

It technically counts, but I wouldn't count it. For example, I park WAY far away from my office. It takes me 10 minutes to walk from my car to my desk. Do I log that as exercise? Nope. But I do log the 3-mile walks I take at night after work. Anything I do in the course of my normal workday I don't count as exercise.

Now, if I took a 30-minute aerobics class during my lunch time versus sitting and surfing the net, then yes, I'd count that.

If you want to clock your 30 minutes, I'd do it at the bare minimum of calorie burn because doing then 20 at a time every hour is not going to burn many calories.

Every movement of your body requires energy. So it does count.
