My motivation was health. A choice between going into my 50's fat and unfit or doing something about it.
The flip switch was a spell of illness when I couldn't physically eat for a week, not surprisingly I lost a load of weight. The penny finally dropped that the reason I carried a load of excess weight around for twenty years wasn't due to the person that injured me all those years ago but down to me stuffing too much food in my cake hole.
Boredom eating - delay (if I'm still hungry in 15 minutes I'll eat something), distraction (get off your bum and do something), determination (I've got a calorie goal and I'm going to stick to it).

The thing that motivated me was a medical report that said my HDL cholesterol had taken a sharp decline. That was the first bad cholesterol report I'd ever gotten and I don't ever want to get another. 46 lb down so far.1

What motivated me was looking in the mirror and seeing change. Taking pics every so often and seeing change2

Going slowly. It's just so much more manageable and sustainable for me.0

I can't tell you exactly what "flipped the switch" for me, but it flipped. I think I just realized I was fat and I was tired of it. I'm struggling to get my motivation back as of late but I'm hoping the month of June will be my fresh start.
As far as boredm eating, I guess I really don't have that issue...but I'd agree with the poster above; distraction. Try drinking a bottle of water and waiting. If you're still hungry grab some air popped popcorn.0 -
What flipped for me was i was tired of always not having energy, and having low self esteem and realizing i am not getting any younger so i made a decision for my health, my confidence, my anxiety i had , etc i worked out and ate good for 2 years, got pregnant took a year off and now since january ive been back at it 4-5 days a week tracking what i eat, and now things have changed im doing this for me and my son so he can learn its good to be healthy0

I may occasionally boredom eat. But now its: a huge container of water with some flavor squirt, or a 21 day fix container of grapes or even 2, because I can handle overeating say 80 calories, but not a 1000. Also, I will punish myself if I overeat for the week and workout for 7 days straight or something to that effect.
Now what was mine? The decision was this: I cannot be real ultra-manly being a tub of lard. And also, I want to do more than one stinkin' pull-up.0 -

I needed a hobby. And I wanted to look good naked, but I didn't. So I figured I start working out.2

A picture of me when my grandson was born. I couldn't believe that was me. When did I get that large?
I guess my grandson was my motivation.1
