Protein powders scoops. Why do they have a line near the top?

I wish I knew how to put pictures here.
But I have bought two brands of protein powders so far.
muscletech and gold standard.
In both bags the scoop has a line closer to the top.
WHY?
Take a guess. Child size portion?
I hope that is not the line I'm really supposed to fill up my scoop to. I hope....

I just weigh it. It's a challenge to even find the scoops some days.

    I have no idea.

I weigh mine. Serving size is 31 grams but a scoopful is usually something like 26-27 grams.

Yes to the weighing! For years I used the scoop's 'line' for portioning and decided to weigh and found a huge discrepancy in what the single serving was suppose to be.

Never thought there would be a discrepancy. Will weigh it.
    thanks @jemhh for numbers

The protein I use comes with a "30g scoop" but the actual typical weight of one scoop is in the low 20's. Would have to really compress it to get 30g in.

Shaker goes on the scales and I weigh it.

It's just a remnant of the plastic casting process.

Yep, assuming it is injection molded, could be the parting line where the two halves of the mold meet.

    I cannot thank everyone enough.
I weighed my ON Gold Standard Whey
The flat scoop is only 22 to 23 grams of powder.
    Vs. 31 grams on package.
(I didn't round because it spills - guess I missed the word rounded).
I had no idea how much difference what I was actually using was !!!
I asked a stupid question and I got knowledge. For life.

Not a stupid question - I never thought about it and always assumed the scoop was a serving. I'll be weighing mine from now on!

One of my scoops weighs at about 1.5 servings. Love my scale. LOVE.

Hmm, I never actually weighted mine. It always called for a rounded scoop so I just went over the top. I'll be weighting from now on to make sure it's accurate.
