Walking most of Half-Marathon

I know I've seen it talked about before.
I planned to get up to a Half-Marathon.
I got sick, got behind, and in general- didn't keep up.
The Half-Marathon I signed up for has a four-hour time limit.
I know I can walk it with in the time limit.
But is that socially acceptable?

It is completely acceptable. Usually more than half of the half-Marathon participants are walkers. Let me assure you, spectators will even cheer for you:-) May I ask where is this half-Marathon?
Go for it, have fun!
One thing: if you never walked/ran more then 6 miles, it might be hard on your feet. If the temperature is high, you can get exhausted easily or get terrible cramps. Hydration, hydration, hydration!3 -
Walk it and more power to you! I hope your training in the future goes more predictably, but there's honor in walking 13.1. I am betting you will have time to swap stories and find community among those walking it too, and that you'll be inspired to persevere and train for another half in the future. Good luck!!1

Yes, and it is awesome that you are doing this! A great accomplishment either way. Best wishes!1

Walking or running - it is your event - if other people have a problem with you walking ... it is their problem ... as a many-time half marathon finisher - I will be proud of your accomplishment when you cross the finish line!0

I've done half marathon training before, and if I did it again I would also walk most of it. If someone has a problem with it, that's just what it is...their problem. Walking for that long is still a great workout and an amazing accomplishment. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise just because you didn't do it "their" way. You do you.0

If you can walk it, who cares if it's socially acceptable? In the end, you're putting forth more effort than most people that are making excuses not to do it, so you're already ahead of the game. I say go for it.1

Walking is absolutely acceptable. As a walker (or slower runner like myself) it's good practice to stick to the right side (just like the slow lane on the freeway ; ) especially if the course narrows, to keep lanes open for runners or those trying to PR. Have a great half marathon!0

Yes, it is great! I've walked several 10Ks with another planned on Sunday. Closing the course usually means they move you from the road to the sidewalk, but every event I've seen states they will keep the finish line open until the last finisher crosses. Have fun!0

My friend walks them all the time-at least 4 a year he trains for it by just walking- I've never done one- so hats off to you!0
