Fitbit hr and calorie counts

I just got my fitbit a few days ago and it seems like the calories I'm earning through activity is excessive. I get 1600 calories a day and my fitbit is telling me I earned an extra 1200. Does this seem right? Should I really be eating back that many caloies?

Most people only choose to eat back a proportion of their exercise calories. I do find my tdee as provided by fitbit seems to be pretty accurate. When I calculate the deficit with my food intake, I am seeing around 1 lb per ~3500 calorie deficit. The variation can be different for everyone. I would try and figure out if it is close to you and what to eat back.

I find my adjustments to be very accurate. I also have a Charge HR and I eat back about 80% of my exercise calories. I leave a buffer of about 100 calories to account for inactivity later in the evening. At least for now while I learn how many calories it deducts. I recently just started eating back exercise calories and I'm losing weight. I'm actually eating about 250 calories more than I did when I wasn't eating them back. Previously I was eating 1800 and past few days I'm around 2050. I typically earn 400-500 in exercise. I'm 5'6" 163 lbs, btw.

I think they say it takes about 2 weeks for it to adapt to your body to become more accurate. the burn will also be for what your body burns without exercise.or are you saying you are getting an additional 1600 when you workout? or is the 1600 for the whole day?

1600 is the amount of calories MFP calculated for me. My fitbit is telling me that I've earned 1200 from exercise. I'm definitely not going to eat an extra 1200.

How many steps are you logging daily?

ok gotcha. what were you doing for exercise and how long? I would probably eat like a 1/3 of that back. so 400. and see if it makes a difference for a few weeks

I'm averaging about 1300 steps a day so far. I work in a kitchen so I'm running around for a good portion of the day.

ok, when I get 13,000 steps I get about 500-600 calories on average. Im 5'6.5 and 164 lbs if that helps. I mean the more you weigh the more you burn so it might just be a little off. give it another week or so and see if it still gives you those kinds of numbers

I'll assume you mean 13000 not 1300. You'd be classified as lightly active if that is your average daily activity. Depending on your weight/height etc, you could be burning close to that with your activity. I wouldn't eat all of the calories back, but somewhere between 1/3 - 1/2 and see how it affects your weight loss and adjust accordingly.
