I'm a pharmacist- inplanon can make you gain weight. In my own little experiment, it effects many aspects of metabolism. I have no gallbladder and my dr. thought I would be a good candidate for this BC even though I had many concerns. Once I got it in, I had severe stomach cramps, diarrhea after ever meal, vomiting and bloating. I rarely had these symptoms before the implant. I also put on 15 pounds despite eating very little and even skipped meals due to the stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting. I will be getting my implant removed next week. All I have to say is if you have had your gallbladder removed please do NOT use this birth control it will make you very sick and make you gain weight.

For you it did....telling everyone not to use it is like telling everyone not to eat peanuts because you are allergic.

At the very least, they're being misapplied in a pretty bad way. I've never known a pharmacist to use their own n=1 to advise patients. That would be quite the disservice.

Also, Implanon was discontinued in 2010 and replaced with Nexplanon. I feel like a pharmacist would know that. I hope you weren't given an actual Implanon out of some doctor's dusty old stash.

Yep. My cousin is a pharmacist and I talk to her a lot about pharmacist things. She would never have made this post.

And she would also be aware of the Implanon/Nexplanon thing you mentioned.

I had Implanon from 2012-2015 and then in 2015 had the Nexplanon inserted. I had my gall bladder removed in 2013. I've lost over 60 lbs and the only side effect I deal with is that my PMS seems worse but my period is lighter and shorter so I'll take it.
