Ladies...chest measurement ??

Sorry if this is a silly question but should the chest measurement be across the bust or round the ribcage below the bust when taking MFP measurements?

I don't know and I'm not sure how to take any of the measurements, so I'll be looking out for the answer!xx0

bust measurement or chest would be around the fullest part of your bust.0

Around the fullest part with a bra on, but I think a more accurate measure should include under as well0

What Exactly Should You Measure?
The most common measurements include the circumference of your chest, biceps, waist, hips and thighs. Sometimes the neck, forearm and calf are also measured.
Chest: Measure around the largest part of your chest.
Biceps: Measure midway between the top of your shoulder and elbow.
Waist: Measure at the narrowest point, approximately one inch above your belly button. No cheating! Don't pull in your belly or stick it out.
Hips: Measure your hips around the largest part of your buttocks with your heels together.
Thigh: Thighs are measured separately. Stand with your legs slightly apart. Measure your upper leg where the circumference is largest.
How?
Use a flexible measuring tape as used by dressmakers. It can be as long as you need. If you use a plastic or cloth tape, bear in mind that these materials may stretch over time.
Wear the thinnest clothes possible, or none at all, so as not to add to the measurements you take.
Try to measure yourself in front of a full-length mirror so that you can see if the tape is positioned correctly.
Perhaps you could find another person to help with the measuring. They would be able to read the results more easily.
Keep your muscles relaxed while measuring.
When measuring, pull the tape just tight enough to keep it from sagging.0 -
Doh that just shows I've been doing it all wrong! I measure under my breasts... I guess it doesn't really matter too much as long as you're consistent?
I'm sure I keep measuring my waist differently as it keeps going up and down by an inch lol.0 -

Mine too, I measure every morning and I vary between 27 and getting on for 30 inches. It's bizarre.0 -
I do think for the chest thing though, if you are measuring as a record measuring underbust is important too. I am quite well endowed in that department, so I measure 36 round the fullest part, but my underbust measurement is only 28, which has gone down by 3 inches since feb.0

Generally, you'd want to measure around the fullest part of your bust while wearing a bra that fits. You can also measure directly under your bust, around your rib cage if you'd like. Many people lose around the rib cage before they lose any weight from the breasts, and both measurements are important for a properly fitting bra.0

I don't know if anyone has tried this or noticed - i find that if I measure my waist whilst wearing a bra its always 2 to 4 inches bigger than when i measure without a bra. Needless to say I always take all the other measurements first thing in the morning every 4th week and leave til last to put on bra and measure ;-)

My guess would be that your skin is still pretty elastic, so when you get the girls up where they belong, you're raising the skin on your abdomen higher and therefore getting some of your abdominal fat up at the waistline. Hopefully I explained that clearly.0
