So bummed. I bought a mini elliptical just to help me get some extra cardio in the evening while I watch my shows, but it hurts my knees. Has anyone else had this problem with an elliptical (full size or mini)?

Do you have other knee issues? If not, it shouldn't. You might need to make some adjustments on the stride length or something similar.

Make sure your knees aren't caving inward (common). If you're not sure, do it in front of a mirror. :+1:

Thanks I'll check for that. I think it's because of the short stride length on the mini elliptical. :(

Glad you are asking instead of just pushing through the pain! I'm an NASM Personal Trainer & Corrective Exercise Specialist down here in Texas and I'd your knees are speaking to you, definitely want to listen!
Unlike muscles, the knees shouldn't be feeling sore on a regular basis. That is a good sign that you may have some movement imbalances ando your knees are having to compensate.
Best thing to do would be to go to your local gym and ask for someone who is qualified to do a movement assessment on you.
Once the cause is corrected, the symptoms will dissappear!

I would definitely check out your knees with a doctor to see what's going on. The other issue is the quality of the elliptical machine itself.
I have bone on bone arthritis in my left knee. I use the elliptical machine at the gym and I really don't feel that much pain/stress. That's a high-end precision tuned heavy duty machine.
On the other hand I've tried some of the elliptical machines in the Big Box store sporting good stores which are more home use machines and I've had issues with my knees. What I've noticed is that the low-end machines aren't as well balanced as the high-end gym machines.
