Weight fluctuation question

I understand why the scale sometimes shows a larger weight due to water retention (amongst other related issues). But why does it sometimes show a temporary dip? Occasionally I'll see the scale go down to a new low but doesn't return to
That low number for a very very long time. Is it the opposite of water retention (too much water intake?) or just a small scale error? I'm not
Hugely concerned just curious. I Thanks!

I can usually trace dehydration to mine. Like if I drank too much alcohol the night before.2

This often happens when I have depleted my glycogen like after a long hike and no carb refuel or after a low carb day. When I refuel it's goes right back up and hangs in there until I have either another depletion or lose true weight to reach that new low.2

Ah, that might be the reason for me. I know it doesn't matter in the long run but occasionally I see a new scale low and get excited just to see it disappear for long enough to know it was never a real loss.0
