    Hi there--
If a person is eating too many calories, he/she will gain fat, no matter how "clean" those calories are. Same thing with weight maintenance. If one is eating for maintenance, fat loss will *not* occur, no matter whether he/she is eating twinkies or tofu.
Counting calories is extremely effective because most people eat a lot more than they think they do.
It made a huge difference for me, and I can't imagine stopping.
Another essential: weighing or precisely measuring your food.
Again, people think they're eating less than they are.
Using a food scale plus tracking every single thing we eat or drink makes certain the calorie count for the day is accurate.

Losing weight is all about eating less calories than you burn.
If you overeat any food, you will gain weight.
Moderation and portion control are key.
Weigh, measure, and log everything you eat and drink. For most people with no existing health issues, if you do this accurately and honestly and eat less calories than you burn, you will lose weight.
