Water retention...

Hello,
A few years ago I noticed that my ankles were swollen at the sides... I was working at McDonald's at the time, and would be standing from about 8-10 hours shifts, not including the 45 mins walk to and from... I've read online standing alot can cause swelling etc, but now I'm inbetween jobs so obviously not standing as much.. but they're still swollen, so this is water retention, right? I've been trying to get rid of it, but nothing is working, any advice on how to get rid of it?
Thanks :)

Get shoes 1/2 size bigger if adding insoles.
Watch your sodium intake. Fast foods can be a "whopper". Drink lots of water.

This may sound odd, but 1. drink more fresh water, 2. leave out the salty food (other spices is ok), and 3. keep in mind that depending on what time of the month it is for you, water retention may be better or worse. Personally I have a problem with fast gaining water retention during heat waves or while out under the open sun.

Since you stopped standing and walking to work, I would also recommend adding daily walks, since legs likes to be used, just not abused - unless you are exercising your legs in some other way.

I'd check swollen ankles out with a doctor. Especially if you aren't exercising much at the moment.

I used to have a similar problem except it wasn't in my ankles but my feet looked either swollen or like I was retaining water or something before I started losing weight. But after using myfitnesspal and adding exercise..the problem completely went away. Depending on your activity level, keep in mind that it might be poor circulation or something. Cuz I was sedentary and rarely exercised,so I think I had poor circulation plus I overate and ate high sodium foods,so it could be any of these things. But personally I think it was a circulation issue and think exercise had the most impact on it. I used to think the reason my feet were bloated is cuz my feet muscles were bigger from walking on my feet a lot when I did happen to be standing for long periods of time but I'm not so sure that's why. I still have high sodium foods here and there but don't have bloating in my feet at all so I guess its all due to cutting calories and the exercise and stretching I do 3 times a week. I clearly underestimated the effect exercise has on the body lol
