Milk? That's really odd.. My husband had one done a few months ago and that was totally off limit, but he was allowed broth and jello.
My husband has to have a colonoscopy done every 3 to 5 years due to a colon cancer history that runs in his family. Every once in a while they have found polyps and he has to have the colonoscopy repeated in a year. They told him the same thing, no milk and only clear liquids. Also, he is not allowed to have any red jello.
OP: don't worry about the test. Just follow the test prep exactly as it written and you will do fine. I had an endoscopy done 4 years ago, and never felt a thing during the test. When I woke up I didn't even know that they finished the test.0 -
Thanks guys xxx
It really helps when people are saying that it can be done
It is annoying but easily done. Make sure you follow the prep diet TO THE LETTER. If you don't, you may be sent home to do it all again because your system wasn't clean enough. A second time is not worth that handful of nuts (or whatever)
ETA: go to the drugstore and get the softest aloe treated wipes you can find. Prevents redness and pain from all the wiping you will do.
^^^^^ THIS! A thousand times this.0 -
I've recently had a colonoscopy. The reason for not having fruits or vegetables is because of the seeds. Strawberries, blueberries, green beans, even bananas have seeds. If they find you have diverticulosis, the seeds can supposedly become lodged in the pouches of your intestines. Beets, beet juice, and red foods/drinks are especially bad because they can be mistaken for blood.
I was worried about the prep and being hungry but had no problems drinking black coffee, water, and the prep mix the day before. I was surprisingly not hungry. I didn't use any special wipes or petroleum jelly and didn't have any problems with irritation but the suggestions to use them are good advice.
One suggestion I have is to wait to eat that first meal until you get home. It was great to eat but the meal went right through me. After that I was perfectly fine.0 -

That is me exactly! I am really glad I asked, reading about others' experiences really helps.
I need to call rom and clarify my diet for Friday, the plan is written with advice for diabetics mixed in and there are some conteadictions2 -

As a frequent colonoscopy getter prep is not fun but the test is a breeze2 -
Wear elasticated pants as I remember being very bloated afterwards.1

I survived
Prep was quite bad for me. I wasn't hungry it was the volume of fluid to drink and the fact that someone thought it is a good idea to put vanilla flavour in a salty drink that made it hard. I actually throw up maybe half of a glass (9th of 16 total) but my bowels were properly cleaned.
Apart from the prep i only had an energy drink in the morning and chinese chicken noodle soup without noodles between prep sessions.
I got a good advice to drink prep with diluting juice or cordial: a sip of juice, gulp the prep, rince with juice. It was a big help for me.
Do not go away from toilet. Do not wear anything tight or with buttons, there were moments when a fraction of a second counted. A sanitary towel may make you feel more comfortable.
On the day of the colonoscopy I was very weak and felt like there may be still something in my bowels but it was just an illusion. At the hospital it waz actually very good experience. The staff was awesome, every one was friendly, professional, respectful... it is hard for me to imagine more humiliating examination but I was made really comfortable at all times.
It was a little painful but did not last long. I slept for an hour afterwards.
My results were the best news, nothing bad there
I was given a roll with jam and milky tea. Best.Meal. Ever.
And what I loked the best in all this? I did not feel extra hungry or had any cravings. Treated myself to crisps and awesome chesecake doughnuts, never ate crisps and only one doughnut...
Thank you all who helped me with my nerves and preparation xxxxx
To everyone who is going to have colonoscopy good luck and may your results be as good as mine xxx3 -

Congrats! My last one in april (I get every year) was good news as the amount of inflammation went down (but still some there boo!), lots of scar tissue and some polyps (inflammatory polyps from all the inflammation I previously had in there). All the ulcers were healed! I wish I was in remission but I'll take it!3 -
LOL Some of my IBD friends like to write messages for their doctor on their butt cheeks. I haven't done that but it breaks the ice.3

I have not done one, but today I did do one of the kits. I hope I did it right, as I do not want to collect a sample ever again.0
