New and Needing Some Help/Advice

Hi All,

I'm new to this and looking to get some info/advice as to how to go about loosing weight better. Some healthy/easy recepies. I have NO energy anymore. I get onto a healthy eating kick, but when i don't see results I get discoraged and go back to my old ways. I have 50-60lbs to loose to be considered "healthy" Any advice?

You don't need any particular recipes to lose weight; weight loss comes from a sustained calorie deficit, and you can eat anything you like. Home cooked food made from real food ingredients is most likely healthy food. Most of all you need patience and realistic expectations - weight comes off 0.5 to 2 pounds per week, depending on how much you have to lose - at the 60-50 pounds mark, you could expect to lose 1.5 pounds per week on average, if you weigh all your food, log accurately and consistently, and hit your calorie goal every day.

What food are you cooking that isn't healthy? Do you know some dishes that ARE healthy? Have you tried googling them?

Can you give us examples of the foods you like?

Why not incorporate those foods into your diet? The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to make a sustainable change in your eating habits.

Agree with what others have said and questions (kommodevaran 1st post is the nutshell). For me, the key to sustainability is finding ways to fit in those treats you like (in moderation). I started using low/no calorie liquid water enhancers (i.e., Mio) to get some flavor and caffeine instead of high cal sodas (but I still have non-diet soda a couple times a week). I love Chinese take-out, but now instead of getting it a once or twice a month, I'll have it once or twice a quarter (I actually find I don't enjoy a lot of it as much because my body isn't used to the high grease/fat content). Don't try to lose the weight so fast that you're starving yourself (if you're constantly hungry/hangry, no energy, feeling light-headed, etc. you need to increase your calories, even if it means losing more slowly; as long as you're at a deficit though, you will lose the weight). Also, keep in mind that as you lose, you will lose more slowly (the first 5-10 pounds will probably come off pretty quickly if you track accurately), but things will slow. Take measurements!

I make a lot of just protein, chicken/pork chops/steak/fish with herbs or serve with a chutney or sauce that are like 50-60 calories for a couple tablespoons. I've gone on kicks where I make smoothies (spinach, banana and however many berries I can fit in the blender, sometimes with protein powder). I don't get enough veggies, so not totally healthy, but protein is usually the macro I focus on to keep me in check with my calorie goals.

    Good luck!

I asked as I did because this was THE ONE THING that held me back from eating healthily and managing my weight - I struggled so much because I believed that what I ate, was inherently unhealthy, why - well, just because I liked it. Food had to taste awful to be healthy. Being here on MFP and soaking up knowledge, and trying new things, I learnt that all food can be eaten, nothing's off limit, it's all about proportions, lots of healthy food is delicious, I am a good cook, tastebuds adapt somewhat to what you eat, and food is to be enjoyed but not abused. I've lost and kept off 50 pounds because I've adjusted my habits, but most importantly because I've changed attitude towards food and eating completely.
