My Fiance told me that the caffeine will help me lose weight, is that true?

While caffeine is sometimes believed to increase your metabolism, in my personal opinion I think it is best to up your water intake. Water does wonders0

Technically it’s true, it’s a diaharetic and contains caffeine. But you can’t build a diet around it, and any weight loss will be marginal and temporary.0

I have heard this, from a personal Trainer. BUT: Caffeine is also not good to take in large amounts and some people are sensitive to it.
As for me - it seriously upsets my blood sugar (I'm not diabetic) and I understand that it stresses the adrenal glands. Sooo, I do have coffee - but restrict it to two cups a day and only after I've exercised. I wouldn't personally consider taking it for weight loss.
Some years ago I managed to give it up completely and DH and I went away on our first ever weekend without the children (then 4 & 5), we stayed in a fantastic romantic chateaux and after a lovely dinner had a coffee - I was awake all night with palpitations! Such is the strength of caffeine (for some people).0 -
I LOVE coffee, so I am bias. I don't know if it speeds up metabolism, but when I have a chocolate craving at work I can usually drink a cup of coffee with splenda and feel good.
I also find that if I have coffee in the morning I tend to not crave sweets until after lunch.0 -
Caffeine is a stimulant, very easy to build tolerance to and too much will irritate the stomach. Plus it even gives withdrawal symptoms like migraines/ tiredness ( Just try going from 8 mugs of coffee a day to 0)

I haven't had coffee in months and besides a few glasses of soda, not much caffeine. I had a bad head ache the other night and took some Excedrin around 7 pm. I was up until 4 am zipping around.0 -
It does alter your RMR, I have seen this in testing. Caffeine is what we call a xanthine alkaloid, and is an adenosine antagonist (one of the neurotransmitters involved in drowsiness and sleep). We actually have to hold all caffeine when we are doing certain kinds of cardiac stress tests, as it blocks our adenosine based testing. It does, in fact, act as an adrenergic substance, causing the body to release a series of chemicals that increase fat metabolism, increase heart rate, respirations, etc, that is consistent with the "thermogenic" properties that are being ascribed it. It is known athletic performance enhancer. That all being said, complete tolerance for the drug can be had in mere week of heavy use. Frankly, infrequent use, particulary used just prior to certain longer distance events, might be therapeutic, while chronic use is just self defeating. So says a three cup a day guy.0
