so, i'm just over 1 week into MFP, and i was down 9 pounds, but gained 3 back, but then dropped 2 again. so i'm at 8 total lost in a week. which is INCREDIBLE for me! and i still have gotten to eat eat some of the things i LOVE, but just watched what amount i have been eating. the first few days were harder when i wanted to eat more, and was still hungry after i ate, but it's getting better.

so now i'm sitting here, looking through the success stories and pictures. and i'm wondering,(well i know i'm going to) but just wondering how often i should take pictures, like monthly? weekly? or when i hit a weight loss goal? not really sure. but i know i should go back in the bathroom and take a pic of me at my starting weight(-8 lbs). just so i have it. and then i can also past a life size one of those on the fridge so i have more motivation....haha.

what do you all think i should do? weekly, monthly or at like 10-20-25-etc gone?

I think you should take and look at those pictures at whatever interval motivates you the best. Some people seem to just take pics or measurements sporadically whenever they need a little boost, some people seem to set certain milestones. Ultimately I think you should do what makes most sense to you.

Welcome, and good luck on your journey!

Personally I think the most often should be monthly. I think it's too easy to get discouraged if you don't see changes when you take pictures more often than that. It took me awhile to actually see the differences personally until someone created a collage for me. As for the ups and downs, there are going to be fluctuations daily and within a day, so best to not worry about weighing yourself more often than once a week. Some of those fluctuations can be due to water weight, especially if there is a lot of salt in what you eat. NOTE: Just because you don't add a lot of salt, or even any salt, beware that most foods have some amount of salt in them for preservatives, flavoring, or whatever, so be sure to read labels well. Also, remember that the best chance at success is for this to be a lifestyle change, not just a diet. That means that you need to incorporate foods that you will be able to eat in teh future, not just certain special diet foods. The more you tell yourself "I can't have that", the more you crave it and the more likely you are to over-indulge, so I don't believe there really should be foods you can't ahve. Drink lots of water to keep the body flushed out, count your calories, fats, etc, get some exercise and you should be fine. Good luck with your goals!
  • I would do it monthly to see the more dramatic changes you are achieving. If you do it weekly you may become to used to what you look like that you don't see the change as a shock. Keep it up. YOU CAN DO IT!::laugh:
  • Well done! i have just joined this site and finding it brilliant so far. think im going to take pictures every 4 weeks and see if i notice any change :)

If you take them too close together you may not see the results as well. I would wait and do it every month. Then you can really see the loss. It will be motivation for the next month. Put them on the frig too.
