I need to lose at least 100lbs but it seems like it's never gonna come. I've tried losing weight so many times before and the most I've lost was about 15 pounds and then I would give up and go right back to my old ways. My weight got up to 245lbs within the past year. Now I weight 238.4 but it seems to be bouncing back and fourth and I've been over 200lbs for the past 6 or 7 years. Feel free to add me for support.

Don't sweat the end goal. Just today. Get today. Just today. January 25 I was 49 lb heavier. I'm not worrying about 63 lb lighter. Just today.16

Maybe it would work better for you if you changed the way you think about how much you want to lose. Instead of I want to lose 100# which seems daunting, think...." I can lose 1 lb, 100 times". Give yourself rewards when you meet certain weight loss goals. Like at 10, 20, 30 lbs lost etc.7

I agree with smaller goals. Since you said you give up after 15lbs lost, make your first goal 20. That way when you hit 15 you're so close to your goal you'll want to keep pushing. I have a lot to lose too, one thing that has helped me in the past is to calculate what % of my body weight I've lost. If you weigh 238 lbs once you lose 23.8 you've lost 10%! Only 12lbs and you've lost 5% of your body weight. Seems silly but it makes me feel good about my smaller losses lol7

I lost around 150lbs . something I never thought I would achieve when I first started out . but I only ever looked at & worried about 7lbs at a time . at the beginning of each month I would set myself some mini goals to aim for - but only within a 7lb target - so it could be to move down a stone bracket, to hit a % loss, to move from obese BMI to overweight BMI etc. each one I hit made me feel better about myself . Remember that you won't need to wait until you've lost 100lbs before you start feeling better - each half stone, & each dress size will make you feel better . When it feels like it's a long road try & remember this quote . " Never give up on a dream because of the time it will take to accomplish it . the time will pass anyway " . good luck .13

Just hang in there and don't quit..You don't want to be a quitter..you want to be a loser (Joke there) There are many who have felt the same way. I know I did. I was 308 on Feb 29th..I started..and the end result seemed so far away..Now..my last weigh in was 262.6..down 45.4# YOU can do this...hang in there!!5

Remember each day is a new day... Falling off the wagon one day doesn't mean you have to run the other way, you can choose to climb back up at the next meal, the next day, whatever works for you.
For me, it took me awhile to work on the shame of needing to lose so much weight, and a day of eating more than my plan would set off all sorts of negative emotions, and the urge to quit. What helped me was separating the judgement and shame... Eating too much one day in no way negates the days and weeks and months I had put in already... A small gain on the scales, or a stall for several weeks isn't a failure; instead it's a chance to look at what's working or not and learn, or a chance to practice maintaining the weight loss, which is my main life-time goal, so why not just practice it in the mean time... Focus on adding new habits, one at a time-- habits that are going to be something I can sustain life-long...
It might take a year, or two, or more, and (for me at least) that's ok. It's nothing compared to the lean, healthy lifetime I have ahead of me. Every year spent losing weight or maintaining weightloss is a year well-lived!9 -
I think another thing to consider is to do something that will be sustainable for the foreseeable future.
For instance: if you do not like kale, do not force yourself to eat it because it's "healthy." If you do like pizza, find a way to limit the amount of pizza you eat at once or make it at home and make it healthier than take-out.
The same goes for exercise. If you hate running, don't do it! If you think you might like running or hiking or yoga, try it out!
I would also suggest going to group fitness classes if you're a member of a gym. It's a lot of fun and the instructor can tell you everything you need to know for the class. If you're not a member of the gym, there are plenty of exercises online that are free and you can definitely lose weight/get fit with those.2 -

100 pounds is a long way, but lots of people here have done it. In addition to focusing on smaller weight goals, have other goals too, in nutrition, fitness, measurements, etc. You won't feel great about the scales every week, but if you have lots of small goals, you'll always have successes.
Establish a clear eating plan and develop good "habits" in eating and fitness. You won't "feel motivated" every day, but you can still follow the habits you've established.
I would encourage you to gain some insight into why you "give up" once you get going, so you can change that perspective. We're all in this for the long haul, and giving up is not an option!

Patience, patience, patience. Log everything. You adjust in time. I've been on 100 diets and they all failed because they were restrictive. The amazing about my fitness pal is by counting calories we can enjoy all the foods we love. You can do this. Stay focused. Believe in yourself. Look at it this way one day you'll arrive but it's going to take patience. You can do this !2

You've already made a great accomplishment for taking the first step and working hard at losing over 6lbs!!! Take it 1 or 2 lbs at a time. You got this girl!

10 pounds also happens to be approximately one dress size, so just set em up one after the other and keep knocking them down one by one2

Hey! Small goals are the way forward...celebrate every new stone reached, every 10lbs, every BMI stage reached, when you're the weight you last were a year ago/2 years ago. I buy a new item of clothing each stone I reach (nothing expensive though coz hopefully it'll not fit after a couple of months!). Best wishes with all your efforts!2

I'm new to the community and am attempting to lose 100+ pounds if you want to add me for support then please do, as I am attempting to create a support group as well. I myself have been obese my entire life so reaching a goal weight of 140lbs seems so far off and not likely to happen, but as I see it:
"Whether I can or can't I am right either way."
In addition, if someone tells you that 'you can't' you tell them or think to yourself, 'watch me.'

I agree with the smaller goals. My initial goal was 50lbs. But I just kept going as I saw the improvements and how great I felt. I'm now down 103lbs! I'm just maintaining now and working on toning. Good luck and I hope you find what works for you!!2

I too need the support of many people who are in the same boat as I am. I have been trying to loose 100 lbs or more for years. I have started with Ideal Protien. Now. And I refuse to give up. No matter how much my husband laughs at me. I'll just have to show him. Even if it kills me. I quit smoking about 10 years ago. That was a hard thing. I can do hard thing's. This is a hard thing I know I can do it. I will not give up. Add me to your support group.2 -

It was a real eye-opener for me, i was logging details into UA Record for the first time yesterday, and got to the spot where it asked for my goal weight. i started entering my ultimate goal weight, when i read what it said, that my goal weight should be 259-289. wait, what? that's still pretty big. so i clicked on the 'more info' option. basically, it said, set stepping-stone goals. then you feel like you've accomplished something. then you can change it. OK! I can do that!
also, the goals. my husband and i set some goals that seemed very lofty. like, when i break 300 i get a bike. 24lbs later i get a new fitbit that i've been wanting. the numbers seemed so far away, but with the little progress i've made, i realized, i break 300 in 6 POUNDS!!! I CAN DO THIS! I GOT THIS! and when i start getting discouraged, i look at my list that is on my phone, and think of where i am and where i've come from, and i can focus. and i just hope i remember this post next time i get discouraged. a couple weeks ago i had a few days that i let myself go. i drank a bunch of soda. i gained 4lbs back. i'm sure it's mostly water weight, and i blame the soda more than the calorie overage, but i regret it. coffee is my indulgence, the occasional fun-size chocolate bar, and i put essential oils in my water so it tastes better. that's what i'm focusing on today. drink more water.1 -

Try to view it all as doing something for your body, to keep it healthy. Drink water, eat more fruits and vegetables. See if that helps. Not only does eating healthier make it easier to lose weight, you feel better when you do. As time goes by, you'll notice different things that work for you.
100 pounds is a lot to lose. Keep the 100 pound mark in mind, but set some other goals along the way. Getting into the 240s, 230s, 220s. Celebrate at the halfway points, like 235 - halfway to 230! - and when you hit 199, celebrate that the 2 is now gone from the hundreds place on the scale. Celebrate dropping clothing sizes. There are a lot of things to celebrate along the way, so use those goals. Once you get on a roll, the success breeds success. You'll want to keep going after you hit the first one.
Whatever you do, do NOT try to starve it off. You'll end up overeating. Don't go in with an attitude of "I've got this! I can be perfect!" because nobody is. Just work on what you need to work on, nice and slow. I'd start with switching to water and adding some fruits and veggies. When that becomes easy for a couple weeks, decide what new thing you could do or add. Don't overwhelm yourself.
It's going to take a long time, so commit for the long haul. You're going to drop some bad habits and develop some better ones - it just happens. You're going to encounter some nasty comments from jealous people, maybe the ones you would least expect to be mean about it. You're also going to get encouragement from people you'd never have thought would be so encouraging. Lots of changes coming. After a year or two, you'll be thin. You can do it.2 -

started my journey in March of this year at my highest weight 222 lbs I know I have to loose about 80 lbs. I placed my 1st goal to leave the 200 mark once I reached that I made a goal to leave the 190 mark I just weight in last Thursday at 189! My new goal is to leave 180's and so on.... This way for me it's seems doable.4 -
I like the HappyScale app. You set milestones breaking up what feels like a huge goal into much smaller increments. Every time I meet a milestone I celebrate! Good luck to you, you got this!2

I don't even have an end goal and I don't want one. I just want to reach my next micro-goal, in2 pounds (which will make 55 lost). And the one after that is only 7 pounds below that (because the tens digit on the scale will decrease). After that, another 3.3 will take me to 60 lost in six months, and so on.
These micro goals, I can achieve. Losing over a hundred? Blah. Forget it. And yet somehow, my micro-goals have gotten me almost a third of the way to what the weight charts say I should have for my goal.
Added to this are other goals like buying the next smaller size, breaking my walking distance record or time or step count, etc.
