Tips for the gym?

Hi, I've made the decision that id like to start going to the gym. However, I'm so unsure where to start, what weights to use, how to use the equipment, and how often to go. Any tips or personal experience will be mostly appreciated!

A lot of this depends on what your goals are.
If you want to increase overall strength, then start a powerlifting routine with weights. This burns lots of calories and can help with increasing muscle ratio.
If you want to increase endurance then do the cardio classes. I don't think it burns the calories that lifting does, but it's fun and you get direct instruction. You won't have to know a lot about the machines with this route.
Your goals will probably change over time, so the big thing is just start going several days a week to build it into a habit.0 -
Most gyms offer a "free" orientation with a "trainer" who can explain how the use the machines, etc. Beware that most of them will try to sell you a "training package".
Different goals require different programs. Do you are your goals?

When I first started going I took a few beginner group fitness classes. I met others who were more experienced and started tagging along till I gained confidence and figured out what direction I wanted to go.0
