Hi! I am new to all this couch to 5k or 25k I was just wondering if anyone could explain this program to me. I noticed on the internet there are more than one site for these programs. Is there a certain site you recommend? and is it free to download? I have a MP3 by the way and I prefer danse music. I don't even now if what kind of music it is. HELP! Thanks in advance.

That's the original one at cool running. I'm using the iphone app for it which tells you when to walk and when to run, and allows me to play my playlist over it.

    I just finished week 2!

I downloaded the NHS couch to 5K podcast on my iphone. She tells you when to walk and run and it plays music. I have a friend who has the C25K app on his iphone and he can listen to his own music while doing it. I started out doing the program 6 weeks ago and there are a total of 9 weeks. This week I ran 3 miles in 32 minutes. It is very good for beginner runners, which I was and I highly recommend it.

I am in week 4 of couch to 5k. I use this website, you can just print out the page and follow it or just look it up on your smartphone while in the gym (this is what I do):
    http://www.coolrunning.com/cgi-bin/moxiebin/bm_tools.cgi?print=181;s=2_3;site=1

It's basically a 9 week program that starts you off with running and walking in very short bursts to running longer periods and walking shorter periods until you can run the full 5k (about 3miles) without stopping.

Once you've hit the 5k, there are further programs you can follow. The recommendations I found online said to do a mileage build up after the couch to 5k, like this program:
    http://www.marathontraining.com/marathon/m_mile.html

And then you can do the marathon training program like this:
    http://www.marathontraining.com/marathon/m_sch_2.html

But the caveat to that is that, depending upon age and general fitness level, you may want to take a year or two of getting your body used to running before getting into any marathons - just takes time to get the body used to all the pounding, running isn't easy on the joints, etc.

I did the DJ Beatsmith one straight from the C25K website (www.c25k.com). Free to download and really easy to follow.
On that website they also have a forum for people who are doing the program.

i recommend coolrunnings C25K i used it several months ago to prepare for my first 5k. the program is easy and I just kept up with it in my head. i had actually started the 10k program when an EF5 torando ripped through my town :( I actually just was able to semi get into a routine the beginning of this month and after i ran the first time in about a month i had actually forgot how much i really loved and enjoyed running. However i do recommend if your training for a 5k run outside as much as possible it is TOTALLY different from running on a TM.

Do you have the Runkeeper app? I just copy the intervals from the website and put it into my Runkeeper app with gives me audio cues.
