Loss of appetite - what do you eat when you don't want to eat/aren't hungry?

I'm on psych meds and 2 of them decrease my appetite (better than increasing it lol) and I don't care much for eating. My goal is to lose weight but I don't want to do it in an unhealthy way since I have a history of disordered eating. I'm not hungry very often and don't feel like eating anything so I basically shove food down my throat because I know I have to eat. No desire for food + history of disordered eating will inevitably end up in restricting if I don't eat simply because I don't feel like it.

Who else has no desire for food and/or is rarely hungry? What do you do? Do you just go for higher calorie healthy foods (e.g. nuts, dates, etc.)? Luna, cliff bars, etc? Protein shakes?

There is one thing I always feel like eating - bananas. I'm going to end up turning into Freelee the banana girl LOL!

I'm on Aderall for ADD and it takes my appetite away, but if I don't eat, I feel gross...
So eat a good breakfast before you take the medication, and snack on stuff like nuts and protein shakes during the day.
I'm on a lower dose, so I find that by dinnertime I have some appetite back....

I have to eat at least 350 calories with my medication so I usually just have that. I need to start making bigger breakfasts, mornings is usually when I'm hungry. Overnight oats with peanut butter and chia might work.

Thanks for the list. I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow so good thing to have on hand.

Try to slowly add more calories to your diet each week. Whether you're just someone who doesn't like to eat a lot or medication is suppressing appetite, the body still needs a certain amount of calories every day. If you have too much of a deficit the body can begin breaking down muscle to supply itself fuel and nutrients which is something nooooobody wants to have happen.

Does it help if you have a plan.. so you don't have to think about what you are going to eat and whether you feel like it or not, but just to get into the habit of eating regularly?
You could make a plan that includes smaller portions of more calorie dense food so you don't feel as though you are having to swallow a whole lot of food at one time, but you are still getting enough nutrition to keep you healthy.

Based on your eating disorder past issues, I suggest asking your doctor for a referral to a registered dietician and a therapist.
