No money for gym

I recently had to end my gym membership as I lost my job and just don't have the money. I've found that home workouts just aren't cutting it for me and have gained a couple of pounds. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what I can do instead. :) thank you.

    There are many body workout videos online that are free, such as on YouTube, that many have had success with. However, your weight gain came from a calorie surplus, probably due to the CO aspect of CICO being decreased. So you might want to consider tracking calories in the meantime.

    I don't go to the gym. Have a treadmill I purchased for $50 and this weekend I'm picking up a bowflex for $75.
    Craigslist is a treasure trove of super cheap exercise equipment.

    I'm living in Japan and just don't want the hassle of going to a gym. I was looking for something to do and I heard of Tabata training which is a type of HIIT (High Intensity Interval training.) At first an 8 minute workout pretty much wiped me out. It would be:
    20s Jumping jacks ... 10s rest (getting ready for next exercise)
    20s Knee highs 10s rest
    20s Squats 10s rest
    20s Jumping to platform about 20 cm up. 10s rest
    repeat 3 more times.

    I was sweating so hard and would be winded after that. However the trick is you really have to do the exercises hard. Any reasonable set of exercises can be used.

    Slowly I expanded to longer sets, running some, a lot of stair climbing and then I started body weight calisthenics. At first the calisthenics were simple things like situps, pushups and stretching. Later I added planking and thinks like mountain climbers. I kept looking for more exercises. I slowly expanded into pullups, dips and lots of variations. There is a huge range of body weight calisthenics and they work well for women too, since they lead to slender but powerful builds that don't look like you are lifting trucks.

    These days I often run over to a park about 2 km away that has lots of bars, workout for 20 to 30 minutes and run back home. Or I use bike or whatever. I keep changing it. Once I started doing pullups, and believe me pullups are hard, I was amazed at the differences I saw in my body.

    Okay the downside. At first it really helped with losing weight but over the last two years I gained 2 Kg. Better measurements, but heavier. The workouts can be a bit painful.

    The upside ... mostly free and it doesn't take long to get started. Normally I exercise right before lunch and do my daily shower right before lunch. So it saves time.

    What are you doing at home that isn't working? What did you do at the gym that did work? There are plenty of free resources (fitnessblender.com, sworkit.com for example) that have cardio and strength training routines. If you are gaining that has nothing to do with the gym. You are gaining because you are not eating at maintenance or a deficit.

    Being a full time mommy and working part time I don't go to the gym...I walk a lot,jump rope,suats,sit ups,jumping jacks and eat right...you just have to find out what you like and go from there

    Do you have access to a local library? You Are Your Own Gym is a great resource. There's also a companion smartphone/tablet app for $3.99, but reading the book helps immensely.

    You could also look at the Reddit Recommended Routine (https://www.reddit.com/r/bodyweightfitness/wiki/kb/recommended_routine) and Start Bodyweight (http://www.startbodyweight.com/)

    Just my personal experience, but fitnessblender, sworkit, etc never work well for me because I need a structured plan with progressions. You Are Your Own Gym is my personal favorite, you need almost no equipment (all you need is a dining room table, two chairs, and a sturdy door).

    Account for the calories you're not burning anymore due to the less intense level of exercise you're getting and drop your intake. Calories in, calories out. Hope this helps. If you want to burn more calories during your workouts do some HIIT exercises. It actually requires less time and it conditions your cardiovascular to run more efficiently even when you're not exercising. Good luck !

    I can't afford either. Lost 30 pounds by walking/running in the streets and Leslie sansone YouTube clips. Minimum one hour per day now. I'm on a calorie deficit of 12000,5"2. It free and I've saved money on food

    I'm guessing he/she was amortizing a decent pair of running shoes.

    I lost 55 lbs in 2015, and never darkened the door of a gym during that time.

    Instead, I walked, cycled, and climbed stairs.

    I also cut back on the amount I was eating.
