Time to face the truth

Hi all.
I have finally hit that point. I'm finally being honest with myself. No longer will I be in denial. I will not order clothes in the size I think I should be only for them to not fit and then believe there is something wrong with the stores sizing. No longer will I watch my butt and stomach expand and outgrow pants and be in denial that I don't have to make any changes in my lifestyle for me to fit Into them once again. I will stop eating the same serving sizes as my husband. I will stop grabbing a snickers for an afternoon pick me up. And I will learn potion control.
I can keep going on and on. But the truth is, I'm sick of what I have become and it is time to make a change. I am 31 years old, I am 5'11'' and weigh 257lbs and wear a pant size 18W. I have no children, this was all done by me. I have become someone I do not recognize and I am making a change!
I have used MFP years ago and i did pretty well but then became relaxed and stopped. MFP will be my bible and my first goal is to log every bite of food that enters my mouth and all activity for the next 5 weeks and to stay within calorie range. Of course I plan on doing this longer, but I have to set a mini goal.
I would love to have friends to hold me accountable and for of course motivation. If anyone is interested in being friend please let me know.

Make sure you start slow. Don't drop your calories to 1200 because it just will be too much of an unsustainable shock for most people. I started using MFP at 210ish and 5'5". I was losing on 1800 and dialed backwards from there as needed.
Probably the easiest way to get rid of excess calories in your diet is to stop drinking them.
You don't have to kill yourself at the gym to lose weight and would probably be counterproductive anyway at your size without some professional guidance to avoid injury.
You can do this is this what you want. Something that helped me in the beginning was to keep telling myself that the time was going to pass whether I do something or not. I can tell you now that I have lost the weight I am very grateful to my past self that I never gave up.16 -
Thank you so much CrabNebula! MFP has my calories recommended at 1770 and that's with being lightly active and hoping to lose 2 lbs/week. I know some weeks I won't lose the 2 lbs and I'm okay with that, but this will help me start making healthier decisions as the calculator won't lie.
Fortunately, I am not a pop drinker so that won't be a habit I have to break. However, I would enduldge in cocktails on the weekends and I realize high calorie margaritas are probably off the menu for a while. I know alcohol will slow results. And my other weakness is eating out. We have fooda, which is a company that coordinates local restaurants coming to your office building and setting up shop for the lunch crowd. So rather than planning a healthy meal, I was grabbing lunch from the vendors onsite. I realize that too will need to change and I started making that change as of last week.
For excesize I do not plan on doing anything too crazy. Low impact activities I think would be best. I do not want an injury slowing my progress. So since last week I've been trying to get at least a 30 minute walk, bike ride or water rowing in every other day. Obviously once I loss some weight and become more conditioned I can increase the length of time and frequency.
Knowing that time is going to pass weather I do something or not is the god honest truth! And I think that statement alone is a great motivator. I really do appreciate everything you shared and your words of encouragement. Thank you7 -
Well it sounds like you have a plan! You can do this!
Here's what I suggest- get yourself a food scale. Often we are not good at eyeballing portions. Guessing isn't accurate. Use a scale and weigh all your solids. Measuring cups for liquids. Log everything here on mfp
Learn portion control and moderation.
Deprivation usually ends in disaster. For long term success, learn moderation. Anyone can cut out a bunch of foods for a short time frame and lose weight but those diets usually aren't sustainable. For me , learning portion control and moderation where key to my success. I've lost all my weight and have kept it off for three years so far.

Zoeysasah~ thank you, I do have a food scale that I pulled back out,.0

I seriously did type more than my previous reply but that's all that posted.
Measuring everything out sounds like one of the keys to success. Portion control is definitely my biggest challenge.2 -
You'll save a lot of money if you bring your own lunches too.1

Druasmith, that's the truth!0

You can do it!!! This is the first step & it sounds like you are ready to go! Short term goals are always good. It does help make things better. Stay positive & remember every bit counts!!! feel free to add me!1

I have gained 40 pounds in the last three years. I can't continue to avoid my weight. No fads or anything radical. Portion control and exercise. I didn't gain overnight and I'm not going to lose it overnight. More people are becoming diabetic. I don't want to be one of them.3

@amandak822, why only 5 weeks? Why not stick to the plan as long as it takes to a) get to maintenance then b) maintain?0
-
Hi Robbina. Yes, it definitely didn't happen overnight. And I know the gimmicks don't work, "take these two pills" and all your hunger disappears, or try this shake. I realize it's all about burning more calories than I consume and I think this site is the place to help me accomplish just that. Between the food/exercise diary and all of the amazing blogs and info available this is such a wonderful resource.0
-
JeromeBarry, yes five weeks may sound like a very small goal, but I feel it is a good goal for me to personally start with. From going to not exercising and not tracking my calories to implementing both in my lifestyle, I think mentally it is easier for me to have a mini goal, and then expand it from there. Ultimately, the overall goal is to stick to the plan and put in all the hard work to get to where I need to be and then to maintain.7

@amandak822 - feel free to add me! You're obviously very motivated, and I think I could be motivated by you as well.
My weight has fluctuated all over the place since my early teens. I really messed with my metabolism in my teens (undereating), then in my early 20s (overexercising). Now I'm in my mid-30s, exercise a decent amount, but I have a terrible sweet tooth and weight quickly creeps back up on me unless I'm very careful and count my calories.2 -
Hi:
I also work in an office that have catered food.
I usually bring my own snack food (Mid morning and mid afternoon)and I prelog an extra portion calories for the catered lunch.
I know that I will have to eyeball the food, so I eat in moderate portions (i.e. size of a fist for lean protein)
First, I take any lean protein and healthy fat available. Then, I eat any complex carb available. By that time, I feel satisfied with my lunch.
I hope it helps
Good luck in your healthy journey2 -
Before I got serious about a change in lifestyles, I used to grab a Snickers as a snack in the afternoon. Now I bring a mix of cashews and almonds, 28g of each. The total calorie count for the nuts is higher - but, the macro nutritional benefits are far better! Plus, it takes longer to eat the nuts, since I tend to chew them much more thoroughly than the candy bar, which stretches out the snack time.0

I started out on another calorie tracking website in 2011 at 247 lbs (I'm 5'5") and I set my calorie range to 1500-1750 per day. I managed to lose 105 lbs in a year and a half by sticking with it. Good luck You can do it!2

I seriously started at the around the same weight! This was at my 30th bday last summer. Those excuses sound EXACTLY LIKE MINE OMG THE CLOTHES !!! "I am AN 18 SO WHY DON'T THEY FIT" when in reality I was probably size 22 and in denial, lol!!! But anyways, we've been there, we understand so let's do this!!!
I will send you an add!!!1 -
I would love to be added by anyone in this thread, I also like to live in a world of denial about my TRUE size in clothes. Monday I had a bit of a breakthrough...Breakdown? And I am hoping with support and some accountability from others and myself...I avoided this site for awhile after having some success years ago on here because I was living in denial...NO MORE!1

I'm 47, 198 (highest ever) and put on pounds in a stressful job. I have a new job, new attitude and want to stay motivated to lose about 45 pounds. I typically start out gung ho and burn out fast like a shooting star!! You guys sound like the perfect group of people who will help me stay motivated.1

I'm so amazed by your courage and desire to get healthier☺️❤️ I admire you for being able to admit that to yourself and I'd love to help motivate you on this lifestyle change!1

That's basically her plan. From her OP:my first goal is to log every bite of food that enters my mouth and all activity for the next 5 weeks and to stay within calorie range. Of course I plan on doing this longer, but I have to set a mini goal.
Solid plan, Amanda. And I'm glad to see you'll have what appears to be a reasonable Calorie goal.1 -
Thank you for starting this Amandak822, I've been thinking over the past several weeks that it IS time and I'm tired of making excuses just to have another day, week, and month go by without any changes. I appreciate your motivation and will definitely need to frequent your posts to keep the motivation going strong. Portion control and keeping a regular exercise routine is what I need to focus on...it's definitely harder to get the weight off after 40!2
-
Thank you to all for the encouragement and support. It has taken me a good while to get to this point, the point where I refuse to let myself stop me from becoming the person I want to be. It was a combination of fear of failing and living in denial, I was my own roadblock. I know having a support system will help with this process and MFP has such an amazing, supportive, and motivational community. I really am glad to have this site and these forums.1

I felt the same way just before April. I had enough of being the size I was!! AND enough of the pain in my knee as a result. I just could not let the weight continue to creep up on me (ha, like I didn't have control or something). So in April I logged back on here, and started a DietBet and lost 4% of my weight in four weeks! It does help to have support, so feel free to friend me.
You are a wise lady to start off slow to see how your body handles the exercise. I started with just 30 minutes of walking and now I'm doing an hour a day. The weight loss has really taken the pressure off my knee which has enabled me to do more exercises.1 -
I'm just getting into the MFP community for the first time. I'm feeling motivated just by reading this post. I relate to so much of it. I will be checking in daily for more motivation!3

Very solid plan indeed! I have an ultimate goal, but my monthly goals are what I focus on. I know I can achieve them, when the total goal seemed impossibly hard at first. Now I am 1/2 way there! Keep with it, even when you occasionally fall.1 -
