[quote="tuxmomoftoo;36813281"]Now that y'all mention it, the dr said my ferritin was low (15) but that I wasn't anaemic''

Then that could well be your problem, as I mentioned in my earlier post, ferritin is critical for good hair growth and that the doctor said yours is low is quite likely to be the contributing factor. Not medical advice but there is a prescription med that called Ferrograd C, the vitamin C helps absorption of the ferritin, ask your doctor if he will prescribe it for you. Iron stores can take around 6 months to replenish so expect a few months to a year before you see much progress once you are on the appropriate supplementation.

Thank you! I was hoping to just take an extra iron pill with my vitamin, but I'll ask him about Ferrograd C.
Six months seems like forever when you're watching your hair fall out. Lol! Thanks again!

My hair always starts falling out more heavily when I am losing weight. It happens every time. I have had my thyroid and hormone levels tested numerous times and besides Androgens, everything is normally perfectly normal. I usually notice it subsides after I stop losing weight.

I know it's hard to be patient but once you up your protein and are on the right medication to increase your ferritin stores, you'll probably notice some positive changes quite quickly that will reassure you the process is working. I would definitely ask for proper ferritin supplementation from your GP as a basic vitamin tablet might not have the right iron you need or enough of it and you want to get this sorted.

How much dietary fat do you eat? Low dietary fat can cause hormonal issues. It might be worth increasing fats and cutting back on carbs.

That's the one I don't ever have trouble eating enough of! Haha! Thank you!

I talked to the nurse today. She suggested coming back to recheck my iron and thyroid, but said taking an additional iron supplement would be beneficial as well. Apparently the 18mg (100% daily) of iron in my daily vitamin is actually a minute amount according to the pharmacist. So, we shall see. Thank you for your advice!

Stress and bad diet makes my hair fall out in giant, drain-clogging clumps. Fixed it by eating better (more fruits and veggies and all around proper cooking, and less empty calorie junk food) and making some lifestyle adjustments for a less stressed life.
