to be honest they don't really offer fresh fruit..we have apples sometimes but after seeing fruit flys all over them its kind of gross. No wheat bread and at dinner its usually corn... like today for breakfast there was french toast and bacon and on the lunch side was french fries and four different porks with sauce...and to be honest I worked there for over a yr so I am kinda leery of some stuff

If you don't have a refrigerator in your room, I think yuo should consider saving up for a small one. You can pick up the small ones for less than $100. Than you can stock your fridge with carrots, grapes, lettuce, etc... You can even pick up a rotisserie chicken and make salads & sandwiches for yourself for a week!

Look at your friends' food journals to check out what they are eating, peruse the "Recipes" forum, pick up some cooking magazines/cookbooks, check out the Hungry Girl website....

And in the meantime, why don't you start writing letters about the poor quality of the cafeteria food? Perhaps since you've worked in there you can input some of your prior experience and give explanation about why there's a need for better/healthier meal options.

It is very unfortunate that your D-hall lacks good food options. I second the recommendation on purchasing a small dorm fridge to keep some fresh fruit/veg and healthy snacks. I don't know what college you attend - is there a grocery store close by that is in walking distance or on a bus route? It sounds like it's going to take a concerted effort on your part to add healthier food into your diet, and I know that sucks - especially when you or your parents have shelled out money for on-campus accommodations - but if you really want to get the excess weight off, you'll need to find a way to give your body the proper fuel it needs. Good luck, and I hope you can find a solution to the food issue.
