I get it. And this is what I recommend before you give up!
Assuming you are recording food intake and exercising and are overweight:
1. Go to your doctor. Tell them what's up and get blood tests run to make sure there are not any underlying issues which are causing you problems.
2. Is your metabolism to blame? You can check out my blog, I wrote an article about metabolism and how so many things can impact weight loss.
3. What is your lifestyle like? Are you stressed? Stress can completely stall out weight loss.
4. Are you eating in your target calorie range? Do you know what your calorie range is? Find out your BMR (how many calories you burn a day by laying in bed all day) If you want to lose 1 pound a week, you need to subtract 500 calories a day from your BMR. Why? Because 1 pound of fat is 3500 calories. Since there is 7 days in a week, 7 x 500 = 3500 and voila!
Check your BMR here: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
5. Are you drinking enough water? When you dont drink enough water, your body holds what you do have in your body in to keep hydrated. Drink more=lose more.
6. Are you consuming too much sodium? This causes you to retain water. You want to aim to keep your sodium content around 2500 mg. Most Americans consume 5000-6000 mg.

My BMR is 1500. If I subtract 500 from that it's 1000??? Ummm no. I definately can't do that. I disagree with that statement.0

1500 is your daily.
your weekly BMR is 1500 * 7 = 10,500
subtract the 500 = 10,000
Divide by 7 = 1428 cal per day to lose 1# a week0 -
Also, disagree with what you're saying about BMR. Mine is 1468 so I would be eating 968 calories a day. Uhhhhh I have already eaten about 1100 calories today. I eat about 2300 calories a day with exercise and 1900 calories without. BMR calculations are usually incorrect. Yes, I lose weight and body fat by eating this much. Just my 2 cents!0

Upon rereading the OP, I see where the confusion is coming from. That makes no sense lol0 -

And you have to account daily activity into your BMR. My BMR is 1,250. But with living and breathing it's 1,600. So you should subtract 500 from that number.0

Yeah... must have left a bit out. No worries. I normally eat around 1400 daily anyway. Just thought I'd let 'er know that it didn't seem right.0

I don't know what's up with that equation...all that equation means is you'd be eating 500 calories less a week, no? It's 500 calories a day to lose a lb a week.0
