I'm sharing my story in hopes that anyone who might be thinking losing weight is impossible can see that there's hope. I've always been bigger, but up until two years ago I was a "fit fat" person. I had a total thyroidectomy in 2014 due to goiter and cancer and my weight started creeping up. Last year, I dislocated my kneecap and had to have surgery and couldn't physically do my previous job anymore so I was let go. My mobility was limited, so over the course of last year, my weight creeped up even more. It didn't help that I had no portion control whatsoever. January 2016, I noticed a weird rashy thing on my hand and Dr. Google told me it was a sign of prediabetes. Diabetes or not, it scared the bejeezus out of me. The very next day, January 15th, I started what I considered at the time a diet. I restricted myself to about 1,800 calories a day for a couple weeks. Then lowered it to 1,500. Then 1,200. Then finally settled on 1,000. I slowly overhauled my eating and started practicing portion control and at this point it's become a total lifestyle change. Once every week or two I have a "cheat meal" where I eat more calories in one meal than usual, just to have that splurge and so I'm not completely deprived. My husband started his diet with me and has lost 70 pounds himself, and it's been a huge help having someone to be that support system and doesn't mind the lighter and lower calorie meals I've been cooking. I started out just walking as much as my knee could handle, then as I kept losing weight I got back more and more of my mobility and was able to start doing things like piyo, jogging, low impact HIIT, and chasing after my three-year-old twins. I started at 360 pounds on January 15th. As of yesterday I'm down to 248 pounds, which is a loss of 112 pounds. My end weight goal is 150 or a little lower, so I don't consider myself a success story quite yet, but I will be! (sorry for blurry picture, phone sucks)
Feel free to add me, I don't post on the message board much so I don't have many MFP friends.
tl;dr: you can do it!
