:explode: I know we all get annoyed at these posts...so I apologize in advance. If nothing else I need to write this as therapy. It's not workiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For at least a month now, I have being trying to eat more to try and get my metabolism back on track after stalling for over a year from not eating enough vs. lots of exercise due to work. it looks like I MAY be on the right track, as the weight went down a pound or two. Well, I went to Philly with the husband, ate a bunch..but walked a ton and it was two days. That was almost a week ago. Came home, and got right back to work/eating well/lots of water/not TOM...And it went up from 151 to 153...thinking...ok....water weight, not a problem...give it time...well I was over 155 this morning and I feel like I'm BANGING MY HEAD AGAINST A WALLL!!!!!!!! Seriously? I work out 90-120 minutes most days, and I log every single flipping thing. How are the girls to the right and left of me on the treadmills significantly smaller than me. What else do I have to flipping do??????? My measurements haven't gone up but they haven't gone down either.

Any advice would rock. My diary is always open. Sorry to be a whiner...thanks for letting me vent. Love my MFP Pals!!

Ugh, kind of in the same boat. Although right now my energy is kaput... what the heck is that about?? I'm having a hard time concentrating on work, maybe I need to eat even more?? I'm just so freakin tired. I hope I snap out of it soon.

What does your body look like? Do you have a high bf percentage? One of my friends is the same weight and same height as you, but has 13%bf and she looks great. If you have extra fat on your body and it is not muscle then it is time to reevaluate nutrition. I will tell you what I tell everyone. Try to eat clean about 95% of the time (no processed foods) and allow yourself a treat here and there if necessary. I would strongly suggest doing some reading on processed foods and clean eating. Some resources are-any book by Tosca Reno and graciouspantry.com has tons of recipes.

oooh...not nice. Have you tried altering your nutrients ratio....especially if you are working out lots. The protein on here is set fairly low. I've just had a stupid annoying 3 month plateau, was doing everything right but only lost 3lb in that time...so 10 days ago I decided to mix them up, reduced my carbs, upped my protein and fat (good fats, olive oil, salmon etc) and have dropped 5lbs. (I still have 40lbs to go to get to healthy bmi never mind middle of healthy!)

I hope you weren't talking about my post. She is my friend on here and I was just asking her questions about how she is feeling about her body. Like what is she seeing when she looks in the mirror. You can judge a lot more from the mirror then you can from a scale. She may be focusing too much on the weight and all the weight could be muscle since she works out so much. Graysmom looks fantastic in her pictures so just wondering if the weight should be an issue or not. :)

I still can't figure out my body. After almost 130 lbs, and 3 years of this healthy lifestyle.... it still gets VERY stressful and is still very hard some days. Just when you feel good about your routine, how your body is looking, BAM the scale says differently.
Try to change it up? Have a few easier days at the gym. From what it sounds like, you're killing it at the workouts. Maybe your body needs to relax a bit? I've gone up 3lbs in 2 weeks reason unknown to me since I also log very religiously.
Please just know you're not alone, and try not to be stressed. Your body will let go when it's ready. Keep doing what you know is right and healthy, and you'll get there eventually!

Man, your arms are extremely well defined. If the rest of you is as defined as your arms are - you may have very little fat on you!! You are working out like a mad-woman - 1-2 hours a day is A LOT!

I don't know how tall you are, but we all know that muscles weigh more than fat; and from what I can see in your pictures - you don't appear to have a lot of fat on you at all. Girl, you may be solid muscle; and the only way to lose more weight will be to do something unhealthy.

You've done a wonderful job of training and toning. Again, not knowing your height; you may be at your ideal weight already.

The "oooh not nice" was in reference to her doing everything right and not getting anywhere...it was in place off say "thats a total %8££ off" which I can't say as I double as a moderator!

I have to agree with LTF. If the results are not where you thought you should be, it's usually b/c of diet/nutrition. For ex, that Jimmy Dean turkey sausage breakfast thing you eat every morning - you'd be better off with uncured bacon and eggs. You're already quite lean and have nice definition, more than most, so if you really want to get that extra bit, you'll have to tweak the diet more. People say that your results are 80% diet, and 20% exercise - well, I find it's more like 90% diet. The cleaner you eat, the better the results.

Yep, that thing is highly processed and it needs to go. I know it is something quick you can make but there a lot of other options that would only take a couple of minutes to make. I set out my bowl and spoon for my oatmeal the night before. The next morning it takes me about a minute to put everything in it and 2 minutes to cook. Lots of other options for you other then processed foods.

noooooo! Not Jimmy Dean! I love that sandwich! :-D It's one of the only processed foods I eat daily, but I totally hear you. Not the cleanest food in the world. Ya'll would be proud though...I used to eat Lean Cuisines two times a day, and my snack would be a Fiber One bar.
  • Just a suggestion, not that I know what I'm talking about, but maybe you need to step away from the scale for a while. It really should be about the way you feel. You know when you feel good about working out and about what you're putting in your mouth. Trust your gut. As women I think we tend to obsess about what the scale says and often not pay attention to how we actually feel.

that would be helpful, huh. I'm 5ft 6in. I've got a lot of muscle. I always have. When I was born I had calves. LOL!! No kidding. There is still some work to do on the heiny/thighs/lower abs. I was around 147 before I started teaching Body Pump, and then BOOM. I'm assuming that was muscle.

Everyone can tweak their diet, but I think yours is very good overall. You look like you are pure muscle, so I wouldn't get hung up on the scale. With all the working out you're doing (and teaching spin), your body may just be trying to hang on to the calories it has for a while to make up for that big deficit you create with all that exercise every day.

I know the other day I burned an extreme amount of calories from a spin class PLUS some heavy gardening I did for a friend (1,371 burned in 1 day), and my weight went up .2 lbs this week, even though I did not eat back 1/2 of those calories. I think you just need to hold steady and give yourself a little (emotional) break -- don't beat yourself up, just keep going and wait this out.

(I also say this because I get very frustrated like you when I work and think I see "nothing" as a result).

P.S. I hear myself saying this, too:

"How are the girls to the right and left of me on the treadmills significantly smaller than me. What else do I have to flipping do???????"

But you know what?? Most of those "smaller" girls are also thin/lanky, not muscular. I've always been prone to gain muscle fast (my mom, who is 71, has biceps that make her shirts too tight, and she just walks and gardens), and I've NEVER been tiny or small. I didn't weigh under 125 after puberty hit, EVER, even when I was too thin after a college break-up (way back when).

Don't compare yourself (as hard as that is). Your body is gorgeous just the way it is. Love it for what it does every day (those 1,000+ calorie burns would kill most of those small girls).

I would try and eliminate the processed foods and keep your workouts to only 4 days a week; you could be over-training. All that said though, you look amazing!!

If I had to put forth any kind of advice, I would tell you to review the dynamic on your electrolytes. Your sodium trends near the top of the old limits (2300 or less is the new ones), though it is possible that that is required given your exercise outputs. However, I can say for sure that your potassium is no where near even the 3500 old levels, and certainly cannot approach the 4700 of the now. Magnesium and calcium may also trend low. The sodium/potassium dynamic dictates membrane potential, and fluid balance. Worth trying?

Could you tell me more about this? What would I need to do? What foods are rich in these?

girl, I wish I could! I teach group ex, so it's not an option unfortunately. I'm long term subbing for the Summer, which is giving me not a single day off. I teach one spin one pump on Monday, two spin on Tuesday, Pump on Wednesday, 2 spin on Thursday, Pump on Friday, Pump and spin on Saturday, and Pump on Sunday.

The cheapest calorie sourcre of potassium seems to coconut water, but I find that a little unpalatable. There is also fat free milk, muskmelon (like cantaloupe), avocado (though you have to eat the whole thing!), quite a few things like that. Potassium in mostly intracellular, and keeps the internal charge of the cell (sodium is extracellular). However, apparently having a large, transient amount of blood potassium blunts some of the damage done by sodium, maybe even helping to prevent interstitial water retention and hypertension. Calcium is 100% necessary for muscle contraction and neurological function, magnesium is also part of muscular function, but also participates in protein synthesis and energy production. Dark, leafy greens, etc for those. Whole grains for Magnesium as well. People chat about starvation mode, but I worry about basic metabolic function in the present of dieting without accounting for where we were getting all these necessary nutrients prior to beginning a diet.

First off let me say that I eat processed foods on occasion but they aren't a part of my regular diet. I looked at your diary and I see......Klondike bars, pure protein bars, jimmy dean sandwiches, cheerios, jello mousse, cream, salad dressing, blue diamond salt and vinegar, pro bar, crumpets, etc. All of these things are processed foods. No sugar should be listed as an ingredient or strange long names you can't pronounce. If you don't recognize an ingredient on a food, then it is processed.

I have a little creamer with my coffee in the morning which is processed and some peanut butter I like in the afternoon (I will soon be cutting this out) but other then that most days consist of 95% unprocessed foods. It really does make a difference in weight and general health.

Hope this helps you understand more about everything! It is up to you on how you want to eat but I have found this is what works best for me. :) Good luck!

You might consider getting your body fat tested because you look like you are pretty fit. Don't get hung up on a number on the scale. To get rid of bloat or those last few ponds, low carb never fails.
