10 mile Island run

Looks like the 10k in July is out, so I just found a 10 mile Island run in August. Seven miles is on the beach, packed sand. The most distance I have ran was yesterday, a 7 mile pavement run. I think I could have gone 10 miles if I slowed my pace down to 10 min-mile. Any tips about running on packed sand?

Yeah running on sand is much, much more energy sapping than running on pavement. As mentioned...you'll definitely need to practice on sand if at all possible!

I can run 10K + happily on footpaths, but about 100m on sand. Definitely find a beach to practice on. I can't think of any other way to get the same experience. If it's not possible, I guess you could try running more on grass than hard surfaces but it's not going to be the same.
Sounds like a fabulous run though!
