Point me in the right direction?

First off, I am a 29 yr old 285lbs currently. I don't look like I weight that much but those pounds...they're there (take that grammar Nazis )I am starting over once again. I had a pretty good weight loss before. Strangely I'm not sure how I did it..I didn't use this site and I really didnt count calories but I lost 20lbs. Due to a few issues I did gain it back( recently lost 8 of those). My question is what should I really focus on? I don't mind putting in the work but I'd rather know what works best than to "waste" a lot of time with no progress. Should I focus on Cardio, weight training, and combination of both maybe something else. Help! LOL and if you have advice feel free to add me as a friend. Thanks in advance.

Ideally, you should focus on resistance, cardio and more importantly calories. Resistance training helps maintain muscle (which affects metabolic functions) and provides you good health for your skeletal system. Cardio will help with heart heath and burn calories. And calories for weight loss.1

diet to lose the pounds, and do lots of walking at your current weight. i wouldn't do too much cardio until you have less stress on your body as the weight drops. As you lose weight increase your cardio slowly. You can do weight lifting or resistance training now , but keep it easy and just progress as you lose weight.

Well the reality is that you can actually lose weight without working out. Working out should mainly be for health reasons, and as a bonus it gives you extra calories to play around with.
As to what you should focus on . . . . that's really up to you. Cardio will give you more calories to play around with during the day and can help you to achieve your daily deficit. You can always add in weight lifting, resistance training or even body weight exercises.
For the person who suggested to not doing too much cardio until you drop more weight . . . I disagree. I was 350lbs, down to 250ish and I've been running since I was about 280 lbs. Cardio at any level is helpful you. Obviously if you aren't used to it don't over stress your body but I know girls who are, theoretically, a healthy weight and can't run a KM without stopping. You will have to build up slowly but you can do various forms of cardio at this weight without damage to your body, just figure out what those are for you.1 -
eat in a calorie deficit
get a food scale and weigh all solid foods
get on a structured lifting program like strong lifts or all pro beginner, and mix in some cardio on off days2
