Question about this elliptical!

Recently my church starting building a mini-gym inside the church. A nice lady donated an elliptical machine- It is aPro-form xp thinline 480. It's great, but it didn't come with a manual, and I have a question about the distance tracker. For my distance, it gives a huge number- 3674. I am wondering what this number means? It's obviously not miles, LOL! So if anyone has a elliptical that counts your distance similar, can you please tell me what this number means, because I am trying to track my distance in miles. Also, does a pedometer work on an elliptical? Thanks!

I found my pedometer didn't work very well on the elliptical machine. I think the movement is just different enough from walking that it didn't know what I was doing. lol.0

Sounds like it's tracking meters/yards....or even more likely is that it's tracking steps. The ones @ my gym track distance AND steps.0

My first elliptical was like that and it tracked steps.0

The one I use at my gym tracks distance and steps ... but if its a negative number maybe it needs to be reset .... try to look up the manual on the internet ---0

So I guess now I need to measure the stride length so I can figure out how many elliptical steps equal a mile. I did 60 minutes of elliptical the other day, and I just can't find the owners manual online to figure out how many miles that is.0

my elliptical measures revolutions per minute (RPM's)
Have fun, it is a great workout and I have been very happy with my elliptical!!0 -
Every calculator tool I have used says that I did just over a mile- in 60 minutes? I know that has to be completely wrong, because I can run 3 miles in 30 minutes, and I don't have a very wide stride at all. Should I just assume that since I can run 1 mile in 10 minutes, 60 minutes of elliptical is about 6 miles??? I need to know because I am in on a challenge that involves tracking miles. Who doesn't put a distance tracker in miles or kms, anyway? Goodness!0

Does it display a track on the console?
I have a proform I got off of craigslist... no manual either. I found one on the proform website. It shows the track is 1/4 mile ( 400 meters or 640 revolutions. However, I did the full track & my distance showed 440 as the distance, so assuming that means 440 meters. I also looked up meter to mile ratio online... 1,609.344 meters to a mile. Does your calc come out correct now?
This makes me feel bad. I just did 15 minutes, 2 laps around the track... or only half a mile per proform user manual. Man I feel old & out of shape. I did 2 miles in 18 minutes back in the day. What happened to me? I felt good about my workout until I stumbled onto your post... looking for the same info. I liked it better when I thought a lap was a full mile. I may go back to my land of dilusions so I can feel better.
Good luck in your journey0
