So I am getting ready to do my weekly grocery shopping. Any suggestions for bulk items? My limit is $100 and my fridge is pretty much empty.

if your talking about shopping at costco type store
I reccomend Chipolte Black Bean Burgers by Morning Star. If you like mexican you'll like these.
Kirkland has Turkey Burgers that a really lean and could always be used for ground turkey.
Costco also has white chunk Tuna in bulk, cereal and fruits and veggies.

Bag of beans - Navy, pinto, kidney (which ever you like)
    Onion, garlic
    Ground Beef
    Carrots
    Celery
Beef boullion or stock (watch the sodium)
(I make 6 -8 meals out of this alone)
Lettuce - romaine, red lettuce, whatever you like
    parmesan cheese
olive oil - vinegar (whatever dressing)
    Have fun! :drinker:
  • If you have a farmers market near you, you can get great deals on not only delicious fruits and veggies, but they often have other specialty items. Good luck!

Get a bag of frozen chicken breasts...they're generally inexpensive and you can do SO much with them! Also, eggs are an inexpensive and versatile staple.
Frozen veggies can also be less expensive than their fresh counterparts, and the nutritional value is the same or better since they're flash frozen in their prime...and you don't have to worry about them going bad.

Berries, bananas, and oranges are super cheap at my grocery store right now.
Salad is fairly cheap, especially spinach leaves, and you can add anything you want to change the flavor and taste during the week.
I buy 10 lb frozen bags of boneless skinless chicken breasts and use them over 2 wks or so in a variety of recipes.

Another detail I forgot to mention. I am also on a low oxalate diet where I can not eat certain foods. Some of these include, berries, nuts, chocolate, peanut butter, dark veggies like spinach, and the list goes on. If you interested read on:

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts!

On a budget it's helpful to write up a menu plan for the week; that way you can plan for leftovers for lunch or breakfast. For instance a menu like:
    Breakfast
    scrambled egg and sliced strawberries
    (hard boil an egg)

    Lunch
Salad greens with quartered hard boiled egg

    Snack
    Apple

    Dinner
    Chicken breast with lemon sauce
    steamed broccoli and carrots
(before putting chicken on plate, cut a quarter off and set aside)

    Breakfast
    scrambled egg and sliced melon

    Lunch
Salad greens with sliced cold chicken

    Snack
Guacamole with cucumber & carrot sticks

    Dinner
Wrapped in parchment & baked: tilapia on bed of julienned carrots, zucchini, red pepper)
Quinoa cooked in low sodium chicken or vegetable broth

Etc ... the rest of the week; from this example your shopping list is eggs, melon, berries, salad greens, broccoli, cucumber, apple, lime, red pepper, carrots, zucchini, lemon, carton of broth. Could also add tomatoes for salads. Just as an example ... if you take the time and plan shopping from a list you not only can eat interesting meals, no stress of 'what to eat when I get home', and cheaper because no impulse snack purchases.
