Dealing with Heat and Humidity - Louisiana

Hey folks - how are ya'll handling the heat this summer? I usually do 5 miles walking with a camelback and my ipod one day and 10 miles on the bike the next with the camelback and ipod. (Just around my neighborhood) This past week since the heat has gone to the mid 90's and the humidity is getting up there too I've been getting headaches. I usually wait til toward the end of the day to get my workout in because I am wiped out afterward. I know there are others out there who put in higher mileage and deal with the heat better. Can you help out a newbie? Send some beat the heat tips.

    I go early, late, or indoors. Heat + humidity + exertion drains me too much once it gets past a certain point.

    I live in Florida, so my general rule of thumb is to get started no later than 6 a.m. or wait until after 7 p.m. This summer, I purchased a gym membership, as either there are more irritants in the air or I am becoming more sensitized to them.

    I'm in Louisiana too. I like to use ice wrapped with a bandanna and tied around my neck. It works like a radiator for your body. There are some specialty products similar to this available that you keep in the freezer until you're ready to exercise or work outside.

    I'm starting to think I'll have to do this, too. I've tried going after work at ~5:30pm and it's still too damn hot outside.

    I'd love to go early in the morning but running outside alone, while it's dark out, kinda worries me :neutral:

    Another Florida girl, and yes I am out the door before 6am to run, no way I am doing that in the afternoon. Yeah I run alone in the dark, so no "zombies run" app for me, happy music or no earphones so I can stay aware of surroundings.

    I'm in TN--if I run outside it is 5-6 am or 8 pm. 95+ and humid here. My mom swears by those cooling towels, though!

    I'm in Louisiana! So far, I am inside on the treadmill in the AC. The last outside workout I've done was mowing the lawn and weeding. I want to get a bike before fall, because there's a well-shaded newly paved & painted road that leads to a little town about 15 miles from my house. Round trip that sounds like a great way to spend a morning. There's a coffee bar and a farmers' market there.

    Alabama..I have to go before the sun comes up and the humidity starts to go up. Otherwise it's too hot and humid for me to tolerate!

    Pepper spray. I don't run without it.

    I'm in Houston. I bike 16mi round trip to/from work. I try to leave by 6 in the morning, but come home around 4. Honestly, the mornings are worse when it's 90deg + 95% humidity vs 100+ deg afternoons + 50% humidity. I use a cooling headband and towel and soak them in ice water before I leave. I also stop by a splash pad on the way home and soak myself. I'm usually dry long before I get home.
