What is a good protein shake to drink for breakfast?

I have tried the powder stuff and can't handle the gritty texture. Need some suggestions.

I don't use this for breakfast, but you could try it for a.m. Allmax brand Decadent Chocolate Milkshake. I make it with added 10gm of hershey baking cocoa to really kick up the chocolate flavor, splenda, milk, ice cubes. Blend it all up smooth. I find if you make protein drinks with water, they tend to do have the gritty flavor.1

EAS Lean 15 has not been gritty to me. I use an immersion blender to blend it completely then drink over ice.1

Dannon Light and Fit Protein Smoothie. 120 calories, 0 fat, 18g carb, 12g protein. Comes in strawberry, mixed berry, salted caramel. Pre-made in single serve 9.5 fl. oz containers (refrigerated). You could drink it by itself or blend it with some fresh fruit, milk, almond milk, etc. if it's not enough by itself.2

I use the EAS lean 15 too. Just a heads up, look on EAS website, they discontinued it! They are replacing it with the advantage I think, which has 0 fiber in it. Thankfully I just bought a couple bags at BJs.1 -
Why does your breakfast have to be a protein shake, especially if you don't like it? If you aren't hungry first thing in the morning, you don't have to force yourself to eat. If you are hungry, but don't have time to eat, get up 15 minutes earlier. You can eat whenever you like, and whatever you like.6

Which powder are you using? Using MyProtein, even with a shaker (and I usually use the nutribullet) I don't get the grainy problem. I've started using their unflavoured and then blending in some strawberries or raspberries for flavour.2

I'm not a big fan of drinking my foods - it makes me hungry.
As an alternative option which takes me under 4 mins to make in the morning I have 100g scrambled egg whites with spinach, mushroom, ham over a slice of white farmhouse toast, sprinkled with cheese and black pepper and a huge mug of coffee
27g protein for 275 calories
(cartons of egg white, frozen spinach, sliced honey roast ham and pre-grated mature cheddar cheese)6 -
Premeir protein shakes. Very creamy. I like to add those and fruit to a blender2

You need a mini blender.
I have one from Walmart for $14.
I make my shakes with milk to add a bit of protein, calcium, magnesium, and vitamin d.1 -
I have a protein shake first thing in the morning and last thing at night and my shake of choice is a Micellar Casien shake, it's slow digesting so gets all those lovely amino acids drip feeding into your system for hours.0

I quit protein shakes a couple of years back (just no need), but my go to was Carnivor. It was the only beef derived protein shake at the time, though there may be more these days. Stuff foams like hell though, so be prepared to let it sit for a few after hitting it in a blender bottle.0

I have found Quest and Optimum Nutrition are not gritty, especially if you toss them in the blender or mix them up the night before.
My favorite way to add protein powder/protein shakes to my breakfast is in iced coffee. I toss a cup of iced coffee in the blender with a scoop of protein, a handful of ice cubes, and a few tablespoons of creamer. It is extra tasty if you use chocolate powder! It's not usually my whole breakfast (the shake clocks in at around 140-180 calories depending on powder and creamers), but I pair it with cottage cheese or hard boiled eggs.1 -
Muscle Milk would be my recommendation, as it's more nutrient dense. You can buy it in single serve bottles.0

I can't just do powder normally, but coffee + chocolate protein powder + cocoa powder + splenda in a bullet blender or some other personal blender is actually pretty great. Spoons and shaking just leave too many clumps.0

Just make sure it fits what you're looking for, and keep in mind that Labdoor gives muscle milk premade bottles an "F" in their protein rankings: https://labdoor.com/review/muscle-milk-rtd Some of it is because they don't like the ingredient list, and some of it is that they feel there's not as much protein as it promises, as well as how pricey they can be.0 -

I make a smoothie. I'm sorry, but a plain shake is gross no matter how fancy of shake you buy it's plain. So I add fruit, ice, and juice and some flaxmeal. My favorite powder is sunwarrior in natural.0

I tried one of my 100 calorie lite chocolate Muscle Milks with oatmeal and chia seeds today (and ice). It came out great. Good amount of protein and not too high in calories (well the oatmeal added a lot of calories)0

I make mine up in baggies and freeze. Kale, spinach and fruit. Then when I'm ready to make it in the morning I dump it in the blender with a quarter cup of OJ, ice, and vanilla protein powder. Just tastes like fruit. Easy.0

Magnum quatro, vanilla or chocolate. The yummiest, smoothest, and only 140 calories, .5 grams of sugar. Great reviews online too0

I mix my protein in with my morning smoothie. I do a banana, strawberries, ice and fitmiss vanilla chi protein powder. So yummy!0

I use Orgain. I like the texture if I make a smoothie in the blender with a banana and soy milk, or mix it into some overnight oatmeal. If you just stir it into whatever liquid you want to use, it's awful.0

I make a protein shake using 1 or 2 servings of liquid egg whites(protein), 1/2 frozen banana, cocoa powder, almond milk or water, ice and -other mixed fruit or pbII if desired- the amount of water will make it a shake or a protein bowl - I eat mine with a spoon like a frosty from Wendy's.0

I use a protein powder in the AM sometimes, usually only on days that I "work out". It's just quicker and easier and saves me time, but I will usually just try to have 2 eggs to get my protein (I can get about the same protein for less calories with eggs over powder drink).
That said, I just use the Body Fortress chocolate powder from Wal-Mart. It's like $17.88 for a whole tub, and I'm cheap and not picky. I've never noticed it to be gritty, but I'm not the most discerning consumer, either. And like I said, I'm not picky.0 -
I find that Optimum Nutrition blended with almond milk and a banana, blueberries or some other fruit is great. Very filling and appetizing.0
