But I'm not sure if I could do it. I start week 8 of C25K on Monday, so I'll be up to 28 minutes of continuous running.

I only run at a 4.0 on my treadmill every morning.

I wonder if maybe I sign up for a race for September or October if I could do it. I barely make my 25 minute run in the mornings right now, so adding 3 more minutes is gonna be harder for me next week.

It'll give you great motivation! I recommend a time when it's not supposed to be too hot. Running in heat is hard!

Do it! Even if you end up walking- it's definitely worth it! You'll only have room to improve after you finish your first one!

Do it!! Even if you walk part of it, do it!! Its the most motivating thing in the world to finish something like that. If you're worried about it find a "fun run" type that invites walkers and runners, then you won't feel pressured.

sign up, it's great motivation! Even if you have to take a little walking break, you'll be suprised at what you can do.

I did C25K at the beginning of the year and did a 5k race in April. I ran most of it, took 2 short walk breaks and then finished strong. I would have liked to have run the whole thing, but what's important is that I finished. I run slow to, when I was running on the treadmill for 30 minutes I was running at 4.7 mph.

You can definitely do it, but I would also suggest doing some outside runs before the race because it's very different outside. I'm actually doing C210K now to try to improve my speed and also push myself to running for an hour and I'm doing the whole thing outside (as opposed to C25K which I did entirely on the treadmill) and it's really tough outside. My body is more sore from pounding the pavement and the hills, oh those damn hills, they kill me everytime.

    Good Luck!

Go for it. There are plenty of people of all different abilities that sign up for those shorter races. I'm sure by then you'll be able to run the whole thing!

You can do it! It's amazing what you didn't even know your body can do! My husband started huffing and puffing with me in January (he hadn't done much of any running in his life). He just ran a half marathon with me in May. It was awesome!

I agree completely. Just do it! I have done 3 now. Still walk some/jog some. But it is such a great motivational tool to help you stay focused in your workouts. Besides after the first one you'll want to work to beat your previous time. Good luck!

I vote do it! If you don't, you'll keep putting it off thinking you can't do it. If you have it set up on your calendar, it's a motivational tool and gives you something to work toward. I have done 3 this year and they're so much fun! Plus, most of the time the registration fee goes toward a charitable cause, so not only are you helping yourself, but you're helping others. You can do it!

Okay, thanks to your motivation and support, I signed up for one. It's a 5K fun walk/run in October so I have time to prepare for it.

I'm going to try to run most of it, but I'll do my best and I'll try to listen to my body when it tells me to slow down. :)
  • Totally do it! I am doing my first 5K on Monday for the 4th of July. I started the C25K and got to week 3 - but never finished it, and I'm running it with my mother in law - and we practiced last Monday and Thursday, and it's not bad at all!! We finished in 45 minutes. And remember it's not about winning, it's about crossing the finish line! You can DO this!! <3

You can do it! I got into running with c25k too and I didn't think I could run 5k at the end but I did. The adrenaline really does carry you the rest of the distance you hadn't run before. Good luck! YOU CAN DO IT!
