I just did my first physique show and did not place well. I thought I was in great condition and dry. Can someone please help? I don't think my tattoos helped any

I barely know anything about physique shows. However, I do have a lot of tattoos. I've spoken with a few people who have done those shows in the past and they told me that tattoos are generally frowned upon in them.

However, those people could be completely wrong! I have no idea. Sorry I can't be of more help!

did you have a coach, or did you go in alone? If not, get a coach and they can fine tune any flaws and get you stage ready

I'd suggest talking to physique competitors and coaches. There are many on the bodybuilding.com boards and you should also review the judges' comments from the competition.

I don't have competition experience but I'll say that you look great!
I'll also say it looks like you had some tough competitors!

Well ya look dry, hard, and clean, plenty of definition, color is good...yeah...I'd say the tattoos and maybe need more work on the calves.

What was your BF%, I'd say 5% or 6% maybe no?

I think you look great too. Well done for all your hard work and for having the guts to do something like that and put yourself out there. In the end, we all compete to be our best selves, and it looks like you did just that!

    I like the tats, myself.

Some things are just out of our control. If you did your best, then that is something for which you can be proud.

Unfortunately it might be the tattoos, but I also agree with adding a bit more calves.

Can you ask the judges for feedback?

An add on, maybe some more work to your bicep brachia just from taking a look at the competitors. All in all though man you have a physique to strive for, awesome work. Gotta ask, how long have you been training for?

Thank you for all the comments and help. Yeah my calves are too small but I do have bigger quads. It's been 12 years now that I have been training but it's only been 6 years that I have been trying for comps. Tore my shoulder 5 years ago. Crazy road.

I'm surprised you didn't place well because you look really good, maybe you'll have better look next time :)

If they don't want tattoos, it should be in the rules! Looks like you've worked really hard.

Learn something new every day. I had no idea tattoos were frowned upon for body builders. Personally, I like yours. Tattoos look much better when you're in shape like that.

I agree that if the tattoos are a problem then they need to clearly state that in the rules. Good luck on your next competition!

You have to understand when you compete you are on stage with a bunch of other people that have worked just as hard and have awesome bodies also. To place well takes a lot more than just looking good, Whenever i compete in anything i go in with a coach who knows what the judge is looking for and fine tune me for that particular set of judges. This applies to any competitive sport. Everyone works hard for that blue ribbon, but there is only one that can get it. Just training hard isn't always enough. You may find out that particular judge doesnt' like tattoos, so you should avoid entering under him. That's all part of playing the competition game, there is a lot of who's who and politics, and schmoozing etc. Competitions should be unbiased, but that's not reality. When it comes to deciding between two awesome bodies, there has to be a tie breaker. Find out what those tie breakers are for that set of judges and go for it. That's where a good coach comes in, they know the events they know the judges, they know what you need to do to win.

This. This is the only way to know why. I don't think anyone here can help you.
