Is Caffiene and sugar substitutes bad for dieting? I though it was ok but I've seen a few posts that people seem to be cutting off those 2. I only drink 2 cups of coffee a day with one pack of splenda each.

i think it is fine but you can't count it towards your liquid intake since it is a caffine source0

This isn't necessarily true., Emerging research is showing that coffee and other caffeinated beverages can, in fact, count towards the 8 glasses of water per day. Mayo Clinic writes: "Even beer, wine and caffeinated beverages — such as coffee, tea or soda — can contribute, but these should not be a major portion of your daily total fluid intake. Water is still your best bet because it's calorie-free, inexpensive and readily available. " (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/water/NU00283/NSECTIONGROUP=2)
Also, in a study conducted in 2008 by a UCONN scientist, it was shown that coffee has roughly the same dieuretic effect as water (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/04/health/nutrition/04real.html?_r=1).
Obviously it's your choice to count what you want to count, just wanted to show the other side of the argument/new information that people tend to overlook.0 -
There are plenty of health benefits to caffeine, scientific research about coffee is HIGHLY publicized. (Medical researchers know that they'll get press if they say coffee is good!)
A packet of Splenda isn't going to hurt you either, keep drinking your coffee.
I think people usually cut out caffeine because they get it from soda.0 -
I might give up alot of things, but I'll never give up my coffee!!! :drinker:0

I don't drink coffee because I have severe insomnia. I'm also not a fan of sugar substitutes, but IMO splenda & Sweet n' Low (aspartame) are the worse. I use Sweet leaf Stevia which is plant based.
Mileage varies of course, but the better I eat, the less my sweet cravings are. I am satisfied with less sweets than usual and often then with natural occurring sweets.0 -
Thanks guys! All your opinions helped0

I use stevia. It works well. A little goes a long way. I am still decideing whether to give up my coffee or not.
Good luck!!!0 -
Never going to give up my coffee! I don't count it as part of my liquid for the day, but do count the calories the little bit of low fat half and half that I add. Never got into the sweetner or sugar in my coffee, or any beverage for that matter. Maybe a little sweetner in ice tea if it is not made right and has that bitter taste.0
