Pssst, ads are generated from your browsing history.27

Well, except I get ads for a cereal I've never searched for, don't eat, and in a language I don't speak.0

It's not as specific as getting ads for something you searched for. If someone mentions something in a thread you went into it can be enough to trigger it. Ironically, opening this thread will likely give me Coke ads.11

They're based on searches, browsing history, demographics, location, and some simple algorithms. If you're on a site that talks about food a lot (like mfp) then it will give you food ads. I just searched for Disney vacations and now mine are all credit card and mortgage ads. I'm not interested in buying a house, but google's algorithms throw me into that category based on age and "related" interests (vacations). It misses more often than it hits, but they figure saturation is better than precision.2 -

I used to get Charmin ads in every juice cleanse thread since people talk about using the bathroom so much in them. That was enough for google to create a link to "target" my interests. Sadly, it doesn't happen as much anymore.2 -
Semi targeted ads based on algorithms, demographics and search history. Super great for digital marketing. (Shrug).1

Ad blocking software is always an option (shrug)7

Pony up and pay for the Premium version that has no ads?0

Use the phone app - it doesn't appear to use browsing history and has significantly fewer ads. There are one or two in the home feed, and a small stationary banner ad in the diary and that's it. I think they're all for Under Armor, which is reasonable since they bought the app.0

You get ads based on things the company that runs the ads (hint: it's not MFP they have no control) think you would like based on your browsing history.1

Plus some people can work a can of Coke into their goals8

Ads? Where?0

eh not that big of a deal really.
If you think about it the same serving of coke has less calories than a same sized serving of blueberries...1 -
I splurged for the Premium Membership...I see nothing0

Hydration and a little bit of sodium. So, yes, Coke does have health benefits. Just different ones than the ones blueberries provide.

My favourite was when I was getting ads for engagement rings and my then boyfriend now husband was getting ads for dating sites...awesome.0

It may have mental health benefits if fitting it into one's calories allows a person to not feel deprived.0 -
I see no ads thanks to https://adblockplus.org
If this won't run on someone's phone, they could always check their app store, which will likely carry an ad blocker for a few bucks.0
