How bad is excessive fiber?

I eat about 40-45g a day. I know I'm not suppose to go over 35g a day but the foods I eat make it impossible. I do drink lots of water though. Probably about 5L a day

As long as you aren't having issues, I've never heard it being a problem.2

Wouldn't your body not have enough time to process all of the vitamins and minerals in the food if it expelled it too quickly? That was my first thought..1
-
Why aren't you "supposed" eat more than 35g? As long as you aren't bloated or having weird bowel issues, what's the problem. I average about 40g a day, too. No problems!4
-
I've never heard of a 35g maximum. When I'm eating at maintenance, my fibre is usually 50-75g.
Even on reduced calories, I get 40-60g daily.1 -
35 is more than likely your "minimum", not max.6
-
Huh, this is news to me. I always thought there was a maximum for fiber. Thank you all for the replies! Its nice to know haha0

How are your stools?
Amazing? You're alright. Bricks? No bueno.3 -
For me, the more fibre the better! I love my 40-50g days.
As mentioned, the 25-35g numbers are a minimum to aim for.2 -
As long as you *faaaaaaaart* aren't having any *rrrrrrrrrrip* issues with daily *squeeeeeeeeeeeak!* functions then I don't think *FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTT!* it's going to be an issue *RRRRRRRRRRRIP*.

Oh you'll know if you're getting too much - your tummy will let you know. 35 seems more like a minimum than a max, that's very low.0
-
Ugh. You're fine. I eat more than that. If I go too high and my fat isn't high enough, bad things happen.0
-
Back when I was tracking intake I'd occasionally clear 80g of fiber. I'd guess I average around 50g.0
-
lol 45 is nothing I eat over 130g a day, don't worry about it unless it causes you stomach issues0

I eat 5-6 quest/protein bars a day (17g fiber each) on top of a diet heavy in fiber filled foods like my wraps that I use have 10g fiber and I eat a ton of veg/fruit. (I eat so many bars because I am a med student in residency and I don't like to take breaks to get meals lol)1 -
One day I ate more than 60...was not fun.0

I'm pregnant and if I don't get at least 35-40g of fiber a day nothing moves. nothing. it's awful. I'm already at 28g for the day and I've just had breakfast and lunch. I'll still have 1-2 snacks and dinner. I gotta see if that lady down the hall still has peanut m&ms at her desk. not sure if they have fiber, but I've still got 1,065 calories left and have had no added sugar today. That calls for peanut m&ms.
I was gonna comment on the 6 quest bars a day, but ....6 QUEST BARS IN 1 DAY?!?1 -
30-35g was the minimum recommended by Harvard Health. I eat 2 servings of Fiber One every day, and because it is almost fully insoluble fiber, I also drink 3 tablespoons of Metamucil per day for my soluble fiber0

Minimums are usually recommended as 25g.0 -

Minimums are usually recommended as 25g.
14 g/1000 calories consumed is the official U.S. government recommendation. Often you'll hear 25 g recommended for women (which apparently assumes 1800 cal/day) and 35 g for men (apparently assuming 2500 cal/day).0 -

If Quest bars weren't so expensive here, and i had the spare calories I could totally eat 4+ a day. I love emI've done it a few times and had a happy tum.
I think @Noreenmarie1234 still gets the old formula from an underground, black market dealer1 -

I used to basically live off of them, because they were quick, easy, relatively dense, and I actually believed their net carb count. Yes, I was a sucker for that last one. xD0 -

Lol yes, I bought like 50 boxes of the old formula. New one would KILL my stomach, plus they just don't taste good enough to want to eat that many lol.Gallowmere1984 wrote: »antennachick wrote: »Noreenmarie1234 wrote: »Noreenmarie1234 wrote: »lol 45 is nothing I eat over 130g a day, don't worry about it unless it causes you stomach issues

Yes basically I live off them because I don't have time to cook during residency working crazy hours and stuff. Plus I just LOVE them lol so now that I am addicted to them it's just my "routine".antennachick wrote: »Noreenmarie1234 wrote: »Noreenmarie1234 wrote: »lol 45 is nothing I eat over 130g a day, don't worry about it unless it causes you stomach issues

I eat a ton of fiber and the only downside is, I get horrid gas.0
