Hi!

I'm just about to go on holiday for a week... but when I get back I'll be starting 30DS (obviously for 30 days!). My question is.. do i still keep up my normal cardio/strength routine at the gym and have this as additional? Or do I just do the video?

At the moment I'm aiming for 5-6 workouts at the gym between 30 and 60 minutes each per week. I do strength training twice a week - aim for 30 minutes (one session on arms chest and back, and the other legs and abs). I also do a dance class which is 4 hours once a week that I get a pretty good interval workout - 4 minutes hard at it, then roughly 10 minutes off doing little things here and there, for roughly 4 hours. I can't give up the class for the 30 days, but I'm wondering should I tone down what I'm aiming for at the gym?

  • I would just add your 30DS to your routine. Since it's only 20 minutes, it should be fine.

I'm about halfway through the 30 day shred.

I was really sore at first, even though I have been working out steadily for about 6 months. So I took some rest days. Basically, listen to you body. I mostly keep my usual routine and add the video.....unless I'm super tired or sore. then I scale back.

You can do it. it's tough, but it's short....

I added the 30DS to what I am already doing. I can get a really good burn on the spin bike and I didn't want to lose that. But do what you think is right for your body. The first few days of the Shred are hard but stick with it... I think it's worth it. :)

I'm just finishing 30DS. I did the DVD and my regular 30 mins of cardio.

I think of 30DS as toning exercise. Sure there's cardio but the purpose is to get your rate up so that it's up for the other routines (like abs) where your heart rate normally wouldn't be high.

I think the added cardio workouts helped me get stronger for the cardio bursts in the DVD. I did Level 1 yesterday, just to see how I'd do and the cardio was a breeze, where when I started I had to stop. I don't think the DVD alone would have gotten my endurance up that well. I just don't think 3, 2 min bursts of cardio in a 25 mins time span is enough to get great cardio endurance, unless you have a lot to lose or are very out of shape. However if you are trim and just need toning, then the DVD would be fine.

I look at this way, when I decided to get in shape and lose weight, I didn't say, "I'm going to do cardio for 6 minutes a day and lift some weights for 9 minutes and do abs for 3" and expect awesome results. Because that's what the basics of the DVD are. Instead, I got on my treadmill and busted out working on running. I started running 5 mins and 6 weeks later, I'm running at 2 incline and running 30 mins in 3, 10 min sections with 1 minute recoveries". The DVD was a bonus to help tighten things up as this time I'm doing weights and not just cardio. And because of the DVD, my arms saw shape fast.

I generally do the DVD, skip stretching part and then go right into my cardio. Stretching after that Other days, if I have more time, I may do the DVD in the am and then the cardio later.

Now that I'm done with 30DS...I have Supreme 90 on deck. Waiting to take me to the next level of toning.
