Salads.

I'm trying to eat more salads I was wondering if you can make a big salad keep it in the fridge and take some out for a few days.

Will a salad last that long in the fridge not dressed of course.

    I've made a big batch to last me a week before. It was just fine the entire week

    Depends on the ingredients and how they were prepped. Many lettuce greens and vegetables start breaking down after being cut up.

    I like green and red leaf lettuces... When I lived alone I used to tear the leaves up by hand a d put them in a large ziplock bag, squeeze all the air out, and seal. Then I could cut up whatever mix-ins I wanted, as I wanted, to switch up my salads so I was not eating the same thing every day. I remember the lettuce would last 3-5 days that way.

    If you use tomatoes, keep separate, or slice as needed. Tomato makes everything else go bad faster.

    I like to keep my salads very simple: baby spinach, mini tomatoes (whole), shredded cheddar and dressing. Means my salads take 30 seconds or so to make.

    Just don't use Iceberg, that crap doesn't last any longer than a few hours.

    I prefer my salads freshly made, so make them when I eat them. They seem to go all mushy if I make them in advance.

    Use sturdy vegetables. I still wouldn't make more than, say, three days. Romaine I find holds up pretty well. Cabbage always. Carrots. Onion.

    Nothing will turn you off salad faster than a turned salad.

    Do you guys find that mason jar salads hold up better?

    I just use a zip lock bag and store everything separate and put it all together when I'm going to eat it. Never tried it in a mason Jar before but I may give it a try.

    I don't use Mason Jar's, I use old Spaghetti jars, salsa jars, pickle jars. It works out fantastic. I have never had a mushy salad. I make five up every Sunday evening and put them in the fridge. Just grab and go and I have a fantastic salad every work day. It has been life changing for me.

    I'd say it depends on your ingredients.
    Cabbage, carrots, onion, broccoli, beans, nuts, whole cherry tomatoes will be fine for quite awhile. Things like cut tomato, cut fruits, cheese, meat, iceburg lettuce may not be so good sitting mixed in a salad for a few days.

    I had no idea jars kept salads fresh longer. Must try!!!

    I make a salad and divide it up into containers so I can bring it into work everyday. I add dry ingredients to my salad like mushrooms, peppers, cucumbers, chicken, etc and keep wet (tomatoes and dressing) separate. The containers with different sections work great. Sometimes I put silicone cupcake liners to add different things to the smaller section like carrots or a hard boiled egg. Then in the morning, I just grab and go. It can also work for home as well as an easy meal. Hope that helps.

    No I use cherry tomatoes and add mayo before I eat it. I put the whole salad in 1 tub, but it's never as fresh as a freshly made one.

    I do, but I prep everything that goes into the salad and package it individually to assemble when I am going to eat the salad.
    I use a salad spinner to make sure the greens are very dry before storing them in my refrigerator crisper.
