Lactose intolerant & Dairy Free

Any lactose intolerant or dairy free MFP members or if you know anyone please like or comment below as I would love to follow & make friends for some ideas & inspiration?

    Hello! I am lactose free as it makes my eczema terrible. I also avoid soya for other reasons so it can make for interesting times trying to find dairy alternatives!

    I love alpro coconut milk for smoothies and in porridge, and also unsweetened almond milk to change it all up sometimes.

    Thankfully it is much easier to be lactose free these days, a few years ago it was much harder!

    What do you still struggle to find a good alternative with? Maybe MFPers can help!

    Thanks for your reply. It is mainly for recipes alot of recipes I seem to find include some kind of dairy/lactose so would be great to see open diaries for some inspiration or reccomendations for basic (&cheap) recipe blogs/websites :) x

    I'm dairy-free. Part of it is because I'm somewhat lactose intolerant but it's mainly from GI issues. I'm in the process of getting tested for Crohn's.

    My adult daughter has cut dairy so I've been experimenting with substitutes.

    For butter, EVOO

    If a recipe calls for milk, often water will do equally well. For instance a little water in with scrambled eggs creates a pleasingly fluffy product.

    Cheese is harder. The last time I used a soy based imitation shredded cheese product.

    The silken tofu may be used when you need the thicker creamy texture of yogurt/cream.

    For au gratin toppings try nutritional yeast with the breadcrumbs.
