How much sugar is too much sugar? How much is it acceptable for the average person to eat without raising their chances of getting diabetes? I've noticed that if I have a couple of pieces of fruit and some milk for breakfast, that's my sugar allowance GONE!!! Is sugar from fruit and milk ok for you? Or will stocking up on bananas put me at risk of getting diabetes?

i think natural sugars arent a huge concern, after all there are fruitarians out there that are quite healthy! but when i log things with natural sugar i try to still not go over board with 'treats'
in reality those kinds of sugars should really be avoided at all costs. our bodies def dont need twinkies! but i go over on my sugar pretty fast sometimes also, like before its even the afternoon time just because of fruit.0 -

Bananas are very high in sugar ... you may want to eat 1/2 of a banana instead or find another fruit that isn't too high in sugar. I usually snack on 1 cup of strawberries or 1/2 of fuji or medium size gala apple. Instead of whole milk, maybe try low fat or nonfat milk. I also use splenda instead of regular sugar. I'm in the minority here, but I count ALL my sugars, even my natural ones. You don't want more than 10% of your calories to come from sugar. So for example, I'll use my numbers. My caloric intake is 1500/day. So I don't want more than 150 calories of sugar a day, divide this by 4 (4 calories in a gram of sugar - sugar is pure carbohydrate) and I wouldn't want to eat more than 37.5 grams a day.
It's tough. I rarely eat fruit or I eat low glycemic fruits, like Strawberries or Blueberries. I made the switch from cow's milk to unsweetened almond milk for this very reason.
Disclaimer: I'm not perfect - (I ate cake and pie yesterday and was WAY over) - some days I do better than others. But I still try.

milk, regardless of what fat percentage, has a lotta sugar! if u're wanting to mix it with cereal or a protein shake, maybe try unsweetened almond milk. i use it in cereal and other things i would normally mix with regular milk (shakes, white russians, etc) and it tastes great! on its own though, i dont likee so much. kind thick. good luck!0

I've been using Stevia instead of sugar when I want to add a little sweetener...like to smoothies or marinades. It's simply the extract of the herb and is completely safe and natural. A tiny bit goes a long way.0

Great responses. I was beginning to become concerned about this, because my sugar intake is so high. But I don't drink soda or eat cookies anymore. I love grapes, but that's where most of my sugar is coming from.0
