Hello I need to lose about 54 pounds. Always start off well and then it all goes down hill. Feel free to add me if you are losing around the same and definetly feel free to throw any tips this way.

I've lost 25lb, and am planning to lose another 20-23lb, so fairly similar goals to you. For me, the first 23lb came off relatively easily, over ~4 months. I then suffered redundancy, started a new job and lost motivation for weight loss - luckily I maintained the 23lb weight loss for over 8 months, without really trying.

Recently, I picked myself up again, and recommitted to losing the rest of the weight. This time round has been much tougher. I'm now at 25lb lost, only 2lb in the past 2 months - I seem to lose and gain the same 3lb over and over! Finding that 'groove' has been much tougher than I imagined, and having less time to dedicate to my weight loss has really impacted on what I can achieve. I've come to realise that accountability is absolutely key to achieving my goals - I'd be happy to add you, for mutual encouragement!

I guess the tips are what everyone else would say - use a scale, plan your meals (this is a big one for me that helps so much), and set small 'mini' goals that are much more achievable than just saying '54lb to lose'!

I used to have a solid gym/exercise routine, my changed job has impacted a lot of this, and I'm only just now getting a new routine in order. I have less time, so I try and exercise smarter - spin classes have a high cal burn, so are good bang for my cardio buck! Pilates has been a lifesaver with improving my core strength, and allowing me to do all other kinds of exercise, so I try my best to stick to my pilates class every week. I now take my gym bag to work with me at least twice a week, which has made getting to the gym much easier than before.

I've lost 25 pounds but it's been slow. Mostly habit eating for me and trying to be mindful about the things I eat and also when. I'm determined. Still have 35 pounds to go

I was thinking of doing it at 7lbs a go to make it more attainable as 54lbs sounds huge. I've been doing quite well since I started Monday, had to really make myself workout today. I'll just make sure I log everyday to keep an eye on those little nibbles jere and there that you don't think count. Great work on the 25lbs. I'll get there one day :)

Try some other targets, not just straightforward lb related. I targeted moving from 'obese' to 'overweight' on the BMI scale, and I also had targets of 5% and 10% of bodyweight lost - those are big health-targets that your doctor would be very pleased to see, no matter what your starting and end weight points are.

In addition, take body measurements - bust, waist, hips etc - and measure them every so often. My reduced measurements keep me motivated even when the scale isn't moving, and fitting into smaller size clothes is a great feeling too.

I take a lot of full length mirror selfies and use these as motivation to stay away from junk food. I'm also eating and living mindfully, like Xmingxue. I've been dieting on and off for about 15 years now, it has nothing to do with having 3 kids, I always managed to lose the baby weight straight away. It has everything to do with shovelling big handfuls of crap into my mouth without really thinking or looking at what I was doing.

I also log everything on MFP, it really helps and is a great motivator. I'm looking for more buddies to join me on this too so please feel free to add me. Most of my friends and family have fitbits but I refuse to succumb! Xx

Ya I also have a pair of jeans waiting to be worn, I fit into the before pregnancy but before pregnancy I still needed to lose some weight. I like the BMI goal, that's a good one. Ya i'm debating fitbit as a good one is like 100 quid. Bit much when on maternity leave.

I also have to lose that much, and I agree starting with a smaller goal is smarter since its such a big number that it can feel impossible. I'd love to see your success as you go :)

Just starting today. My long term goal is the same as your (-54 lbs) I am at 234 and ultimately want to get to 180. That will take a while, but I did sign up for the 20 lb challenge for the next 10 weeks. Maybe that will be a doable goal which will propel me forward.

20lbs sounds doable over 10 weeks. Good luck with it ☺

54 lbs is my goal as well! I'm currently at 32lb lost with 22 to go. YOU CAN DO THIS. My biggest tip is to weigh your food and log every single bite that you eat. It makes a big difference.

    GOOD LUCK!!

LOL. I'm having a hard time just getting used to logging meals and snacks now. I will eventually need to get a food scale, but I haven't started looking into that yet.

I've seen quite a few people who start their weight loss plan by just learning to log what they eat - without any major changes to their food amounts. Once they get the hang of entering the different foods, only then do they 'push the button' and set MFP for a deficit. That way, they've already set themselves up with the habit of logging (and pre-logging), and are educating themselves about calories and how a meal plan fits together to make sure macros add up as well as calorie goals. I continued to log, in a looser way, during my maintenance phases recently, and only tightened up my logging when I moved back to a concerted effort of hitting a deficit.

Whilst weighing all your foods is basically the key to accurate food logging, in the early phase of my weight loss, I found it didn't matter quite so much if some things were approximated. My deficit, from what I'd previously been eating, was large enough that I lost weight anyway. Now, with a smaller amount left to lose, I know I need to have totally accurate logging, and a scale is absolutely key to that.
