30 day shred (*sight*)

I bought the dvd today, and I'm so disappointed. Not in the dvd, that was great! But in myself! *sigh*

There are 3 levels, they say to move to level 2 when you're ready> But it's the 30 Day Shred, so it makes it sound like you need to be able to do all 3 levels in 30 days. I don't think I can get to level 2 in 10 days.

They do push-ups for 30 seconds straight a few times throughout the dvd. That doesn't sound bad at all, I know. But for some reason even when i was really skinny I couldn't do push-ups. I probably had to stop doing push-ups after 10 seconds maybe even 5 seconds. *sigh*

Sorry to vent. I guess I just thought I could have done the level 1 the first day & I'm so off! I didn't quit, I made it to the end, but if JM would have seen me she would have yelled at me for taking so many breaks! =/

Has anyone else had probably doing just level 1?

Don't be too hard on yourself! Upper body strength is really hard to get and to keep. If you need to do push ups on your knees to make a little easier for you until you can build up and can do the full 30 with regular push up! Don't give up you will get there ( :

Just keep at it. It is hard.

    I'm on day 16....

By day five of level 1, I could see changes in my body (arms, shoulders, legs) so keep going.

the only way to get that upper body strength is to use it-do what you can. so what if you have to take breaks now....eventually you will get stronger if you keep going..

I take breaks all the time with JM DVD's and I've done the Shred twice. She'd hate me if she saw me exercise! But as long as you know you're BURNING yourself out...you'll still see results. :D

And congrats for doing it in the first place!

Ok, dont be frustrated. I thought I was in pretty good shape. I do an hr of cardio a day and play co-ed indoor soccer and rarely get winded. I started the 30 day shred on Friday night and I could barely move Saturday. I couldnt do it Saturday because I was so sore so I did it agann Sunday and I am walking like a duck and cussing Jillian Micheals name =). It's rough!!!!! We can push through!!!!!

Remember that the goal is not that you can do a specific move a specific number of times in a specific number of days. The point is that each time you work out you are getting closer, and each time you're getting healthier. Don't get hung up on the "expectations". Who cares if it takes you 30 days to get to level two? Or even longer? It's not like you're done working out when you hit level three. Be patient with yourself. Keep doing it and you'll see improvement.

I'm hoping I'm not like that tomorrow because I plan to do it ever day.

For as exhausted, beat red, & sweaty as I was when I finally got done with the 20 minutes, now that i'm all relaxed and cooled off i kind of want to do it again. But I think that's just because I bought it today and i'm excited about it hahaha!

Don't be hard on yourself. It's difficult, I couldn't even finish the first day, I'm on my 5 day and still I can't do decent push-up not even in my knees  I think I won't be able to do the next level till day 15 or something :ohwell:

Thank you, I really needed to hear that. And it's true it might take to 30 days to get to level 2 lol, especially if I have to do all the moves right & do the push-ups on my feet HAHAHAH!

I was doing them on my knees too when I quit doing them. I'm with you. It's amazing how everyone talk about their results but I've never actually heard anyone say that it's hard at all. lol

Last year, when I was at my heaviest, I thought I was gonna die just doing the warm-up in Level 1 of the Shred. I'm not even joking. Now I can do all of the advanced moves in Level 3. Persistence pays off. Don't be so hard on yourself, just do the very best that you can do - and continue to do that every single day. You can totally do it! :)

As soon I finished my awful first day, I looked up some old post about it, and felt better when I read other people complaining, but saying it gets better after day 6-7. We can do this! My first goal is to be able to do a 'real' push-up at day 30 hahhaha :)

Push ups are very hard for most women! I haven't done Shred but I did the 60 day INSANITY challenge (missed only 1 day out of 60), then completed the first month again and for the past two months I've been mixing Max INSANITY (second month) and a Bob Harper upper body strength workout. When I first started I could go down into the pushup and push up once and I was done...Now I can do 6-10 "perfect" form pushups and then I switch to "girly" ones :-) Keep it up ... you will see improvement!

The other thing, is that I bought 5lb weights. Bad idea. I have very bad upper body strength, so I had to put down the weights half way through using them. But I still did the arm motions without them.

I wonder if I should keep trying with the 5lbs, or if I should buy lighter ones. Hmm.

I was just thinking "i'm relaxed and cooled off. i feel pretty good. maybe i'll see if i can do it again quick" ...

I sat down after doing the 30 Day Shred. Haven't stood up until now. WOW!!!!!!! MY LEGS! haha if they feel like this now, what will they feel like tomorrow lol =P

I'm definitely not going to try to "do it again quick" lol!

i might feel like i didn't do a lot of the stuff right, but i was working something! =P

I started Friday! I made it through 15 minutes of level one before I had to stop because I thought I was going to die... I wasn't able to try again yesterday because my thighs hurt so bad. I was disappointed, but I'll get over it. I'm proud I even STARTED working out like that. When it doesn't hurt to stand again, I'm going to try again.
And I did 5 push-ups on my knees before I couldn't do anymore.

Be proud you're doing it, and go as you can. :)

Add me if you need a little extra encouragement. We can try together!

I less than three you so much right now! I bought this DVD yesterday and went through the exact same thing! I've been a little sore all over today. After feeling like a pretty big failure yesterday, though, I started reading the exercise section of her book, "Winning by Losing". It says (paraphrased):

"The only time I do strongly recommend low-intensity exercise over high is at the beginning of any fitness regimen, when you might be inclined to jump right in and give it all you've got... For the first 2 weeks of training, I make all my new clients pass the talk test; you have to be able to carry on a conversation comfortably throughout the workout... Once you have been exercising for several weeks, it's safe to increase your intensity..."

I feel so much better now! My new plan is to spend July on the treadmill and elliptical at the gym, and save the shred for August. Good luck to you!

I wonder if I'd pass the talk test LOL.... I'm 209lbs and need to be able to be in a bikini in 15 weeks for Jamaica. At least that's a goal.... Anyway, when I was doing the Shred anytime i felt like stopping because I thought I couldn't handle it I kept saying "I need to do this! I need to do this! I need to do this!" LOL

I am on day 9 of the shred. I also started out with 5 lb weights. The first couple of days I had to switch to using soup cans as the weights were just to heavy. So I did go buy some 3 lb weights. I can now do most of the moves with the 5 lb weights. It does get better. Just keep at it and you will see yourself get stronger! Remember that this is a life style change. You are going to be exercising for the rest of your life, so it doesn't really matter if this takes you 30 days or 60 days. Be proud of your self for starting and don't give up tomorrow if you are super sore! You can do this!!
  • I did the 30 day shred...and I am doing another round of it. I saw amazing results and I almost always did the modified version of the exercises. Keep at it...it's tough...but you are working at it...that's all that matters! Good for you!

Glad to know I'm not alone!! I started it Thursday night and Friday I honest to goodness didn't think i was going to make it through the day at work i was so sore... Today was the first day I didn't do it :( and it wasn't b/c of the shred,... it's so tough, but after the first couple of days it seemed to get better the 3rd day...still not easy..still felt like i was dying but a little easier... my leg wouldn't let me do it today b/c I stood for wayyyy too many hours on it... but I'm glad you got the dvd!!! :) we can do this!!!
