Are you guys having trouble with tracking the food if someone else cooks most of the time too?

If you can't control what's in the food, use the "plate model" - 1/2 vegetables, 1/4 protein, 1/4 starch.

That would be tough because you couldn't really count calories accurately.

Can you cook for yourself sometimes? Or assist with the cooking? I'm unclear as to the circumstances so if you give us more details then we can offer better suggestions and alternatives.

It annoys my husband, but after he cooks and plates a nice dinner, I take everything off the plate to weigh it on the food scale. I while I don't know every ingredient that went in, I can at least track the portions correctly.

My wife and I are both counting, so I do the weighing for both of us whomever cooks. Before then I would plate my own food so I could measure appropriately.

It's still can sometimes be challenging in that I don't always know the exact recipe when I don't cook. But I have always been lucky that estimating always worked for me even when I didn't have a scale; because I tend to estimate slightly under the portion size/calories.

I had trouble with tracking and I do most of the cooking. Having to weigh and measure every ingredient sucked all the joy out of cooking for me.

Worst comes to worst, I compliment them and ask for the recipe. That way, I can quickly import the recipe into MFP and get a decent guesstimate.

I see well my background is from the Caribbean so the spices are always the same for flavor mostly, but it's when you're not doing the cooking and the chicken is bite size pieces or even sometimes a stew that you can't identify accurately on mfp,but I guess cooking sometimes will have to do..
