Eating to kill time

Sometimes in the office, I find myself wanting to eat things to help pass the time during down time.
What does everyone do to try and avoid that?

I knit instead of snacking out of boredom. It's a bother to put down the needles for a bite :)

I get up and go fill my cup with ice and take the long way around the office up to the water cooler then back to my office by which time I probably will have to go use the bathroom shortly so I reverse course.

    Or

    Read news stories on MSN

    or

    Read questions on the forums.

I am at my desk all day long and I know what you mean. I am constantly eating but I choose things like carrots with cheese or hummus, or high protein yogurt. I also do high protein, low carb protein bars, apple slices with peanut butter or meat and cheese roll ups. Just keep track of everything.

For me, Diet Coke helps. It give me something to drink that's not water and if I have one I don't eat...

    Gum helps too.

Bring healthier snacks. Carrot chips, celery sticks, or snap peas.

Drink flavored hot tea (or iced herbal tea).

I brought a microwave popper, and make popcorn with 1 teaspoon of oil (helps the salt stick).

Ice water in the mornings. I bring a big jug of it to work.

I have a desk job too. I drink Coke Zero and that helps my craving. I also goof around on the internet. o:)

@SezxyStef hit it on the head. I get up and go for a quick walk. Totally takes the edge off and buys me a good hour or more. But, as a backup, I try to keep healthy snacks on hand because some days I just get friggin hungry and need a quick bite in the afternoon. I keep things like beef jerky (80 cals), apples (80 cals), or even almonds. The more I plan my meals ahead, the less likely I am to stray off the path!

I don't like depriving myself if I am actually hungry, which I usually am in the afternoons. Like others have suggested, I usually just make sure to have healthy snacks on hand, and of course track everything. Usually I try to stick to things on this list when packing my snacks https://www.myliporidex.com/blog/best-fat-burning-foods/
